Handling EXCEL file - Laravel

Hello guys.

I have an desktop app that uses Excel file as a database.

I am pushing that Excel file to web server.

On the server I have front end that should list records from that Excel file and perform CRUD operations on it.

Here are some questions/concerns that i have.

I am not sure is it possible or good practice to use Excel file on the web server as a database?
Should i convert that Excel file in some other format and after that push it to a web server ?
In what format should i convert Excel file before pushing ?
Should I populate mysql in some way on web server after pushing that file ?

Also I need to be able to download that file ( database ) from web server on to desktop and open it in program ( file should be in Excel format )

I have really 0 exp with this so if u have some tips and suggestions please post it..

Also I have concern that if someone is editing or viewing that file on the server side can be interrupted/fucked up if someone upload updated excel file from desktop app..

EDIT: That excel file that is sent to web server clients are sending/downloading around 10 times a day.

Also file have around 6000 rows with 30 columns. A lot of colums are empty or have really little data ( 1-2 words )

Probably not, but again I could be wrong, at the end of the day it all depends on your specific business requirements.

No, just send it as a file.

In what format should i convert Excel file before pushing ?
None

It depends on your business requirements

Well , there are no requirements except that they have excel file as a database , i can do what ever i want with it. I can convert it/ transform to other file/document/extension and use it on server, im now searching the best way of doing this..

No, just send it as a file.
I mean should i convert excel file to some other format like ms access , mysql or something like that and after that upload it to web server, my explanation was poor on this, sorry

That looks like a DMS (Document Management System), am I correct? - my colleague worked on such system and from what he said, it is total pain in the ass to keep the Excel file synchronized across clients (in our case Word document, but still).

How about the following scenario:
- use MySQL as the main database
- use Excel only to show and modify the data from MySQL, after you are done with modifying the data push it back to MySQL for others to use. This way you will very likely avoid data races on the Excel file (situation where two clients need to use the Excel file at the same time) and you can have multiple clients work on the Excel file simultaneously - version control system?
- at the same time, Excel file could listen to data changes from MySQL - all the time or periodically (sort of semi-automated version control system)
- do both desktop users and web users modify same Excel file? if so, does the file need to be updated all the time across all clients (desktop + web)
- does it really need to be MySQL? how about some NoSQL, non-relational database? It might be easier and/or faster for data updates

I was writing about this whole project more on this link -> https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=5972916

............. " - version control system? "

I think it is too much.

They have shop A and show B. They want to push excel file from shop A and shop B.

Excel file from shop A have list of all bills that were made in shop A

Excel file from shop B have list of all bills that were made in shop B

They are pushing excel files to server and i planned to bind excel file from shopp A and shop B and show them list of all bills that they have. So after that i will make some sorting/filters etc... I planned to allow editing Excel files via browser on server because they can access anytime to those files and also they can work from home ( no need for desktop app )..

Next excel file that they use is file that have around 6000 products and around 30 columns. This excel file contain list of all products and quantities that they have.
They have one column for shop A quantity , other column for shop B quantity.

I already made a system to make updates on that excel file via desktop app , so basically they are sending modified excel file to server and other shop can download it anytime and open it ..
Also i should display those products from that excel file on client side, web store..

EDIT : I never used nosql so i dont think that will work, also if u have some suggestions write me on PM since we have same native language, it will be easier @H1gh-T3ch

Keep the data in a database and have excel dynamically pull the data. Enable single user locking too.
