Hello, my question is very basic. I read and heard people say that backlinks can hurt my website ranking somehow.
how can that even be possible? shouldn't it be the more backlinks there are the better ranking the website should get?
I'm a complete noob to SEO and still learning so might be a stupid question but whatever.
so I bought 60k backlinks to my adult niche site and the links are tier 2-3 so the question is.
can backlinks hurt my website from ranking?

That's not really what tiered backlinking means.
Your Tier 1 links are what point directly to your website.
Tier 2 links point to your Tier 1 links.
Tier 3 links point to your Tier 2 links.
Tier 2 and 3 links aren't inherently bad, but quality does tend to diminish the farther down the tiers you go (though doesn't have to).
Think of It like a snowball rolling down a hill. At the top are your tier 3+ links. As It goes down the hill It builds size/strength until It reaches the bottom and hits your main website.
So If you purchased 60k tier 2-3 links, they are not going to be quality. You may end up hurting your website because with that many It's certain to be spam.

You bought spam links and basicly wasted your money. I doubt Google will penalize for this, but they could.
Bottomline is: stop wasting your money on this bullshit, you cannot rank #1 on competitive keywords by spending $10, no matter what that fiverr gig says. Google is smart, the best way to rank is to get relevant backlinks (from authority sites in your niche) and provide good content.

If I get punished at least I learned a lesson.
the backlinks cost me $5 since it was 50% off so a waste of money I don't know. I basically spent nothing.
and no I didn't buy the from fiver I bought them from BHW. A trusted seller with a good reputation.
the links had a "do follow" I don't really know what that means but anyway thanks for the answer.
edit: as I said before I'm a complete noob to SEO and I'm learning so I'm just buying things and trying out things for myself so I can learn.

dofollow links pass 'link juice' (help you rank), nofollow links dont (altho they aren't totally useless either). The main thing is to not try and trick Google. Even if these tricks work, Google will in time do an update and you'll lose everything.

I sent 20k backlinks to my blog when I first started out and it affected it badly, as long as they are not spammy you should be ok since they are "do follow" learn to be an authority in your niche.
Seo takes a lot of time to understand but once you do you will be fine.
Depends on the backlinks.
Backlinks that are spammy or not relevant to your niche will either not affect or negatively impact your domain authority.
Because people use spammy blacklinks to fugg with their competition google will allow you to disavow bad links. Use this option if you pay for some links that end up being crappy or someone tries to to neg you in the SERPS using the method I just described. Keep your links relevant and you should be ok.
