Quote:Breaking and tragic news over the past hour sees one of the anime industry's most beloved institutions in a state of emergency. Japan's public broadcaster NHK has been following a massive fire at Kyoto Animation's Studio 1 in Uji, which houses much of the studio's administrative offices and training facilities. Early reports confirm at least 30 injured, with 10 suffering more critical injuries. As of 9:51pm PT, NHK has reported that "at least two people are dead". The source of the fire is believed by local authorities to have been arson, and the suspected perpetrator—a Japanese man in his 40s not yet identified to the public—is in custody.

LATEST UPDATES: 13 confirmed dead from the first and second floors, 10 more found and presumed dead on the third floor; expected death toll is now at 23.
Of the roughly 70 total people assumed to be in the building at the time of the fire, 36 people have also been taken to the hospital and treated for injuries.
Sentai Filmworks, the American licensor and publisher, has started a 'Help KyoAni Heal' gofundme campaign that has already surpassed $270,000 in five hours.
Also to clarify, the suspect had been quickly apprehended by police and while being treated at a hospital, is in police custody.
EDIT: NEW UPDATE from NHK World states that police have confirmed 25 people dead, 36 others injured, and 5 still unaccounted for.

This really sucks...
There are rumours going on that the suspect was yelling "you ripped me off" or "you copied" after fleeing from the building.
The studio was also getting threatened by email recently
🤝
:(
I hope the victims recover quickly in the hospital

LATEST UPDATES: The building has been completely swept, confirming that 74 people (67 employees?) had been inside the building at the time of the fire.
Standing death toll is still 33, which was confirmed by officials earlier this morning. 36 additional people were injured with 10 of those still in critical condition.
In slightly mroe positive news, Sentai Filmworks' relief GoFundMe campaign has surpassed $1,000,000USD in just 19 hours, and the company is actively coordinating with both GoFundMe as well as others in the Japanese anime industry in Japan to ensure that the funds collected directly reach those in need.

Damn this is terrible. I wouldn't want to die from smoke inhalation let alone burn to death.
@OP This should be in news in happenings.
Reports of a suspect being detained with strong evidence it was him. He was seen on CCTV filling up two containers full of petrol and is currently bring treated for burns. Still no information on any links or motivations from the said suspect.
Gofundme is also now at $1.1m.
God. This is the only news that has actually made me feel shit. Hope everyone recovering makes a full recovery.
