Dear friends,

I have a Thinkpad T430 that has a mini display-port. I am planning to buy a mini display-port to HDMI cable to connect it to an external display. Would this cable carry sound as well as video, or only video? I want to do this because I don't want to go through the hassle of connecting it via VGA, and then having to connect an extra audio cable from the laptop to the external display.

Help is appreciated. Thanks.

Mini HDMI to HDMI works, or other way around as well. I used to use these "coverter" and i had sound in my tv.

According to Lenovo, that laptop support audio out through the mini display port. (https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thi...ries/t430/) Not every laptop does. As far as the cable, they can do sound just like any HDMI cable.
