Will ethereum 2.0 have its own coin and how will that influence the current ethereum

I read Vitalik's blog posts and the part about there not being a bridge between the two blockchains got me wondering what that would mean for ethereum.

So if I'm understanding that correctly it means that there will be two coins. One on the old and one on the new blockchain.

When ethereum 2.0 is released will people buy the 2.0 coin? And what will that do to the price of ethereum 1.0? Because why stay on the old blockchain? But wouldn't the coins become worthless if you couldn't transfer them. Vitalik wrote that there would be a bridge eventually but that would take a few years.

I understand that staking will be available. Doubt there will be a new coin but there isn't really much information now
Ethereum 2.0 is just a new system. Your 1.0 ether will be able to be transferred via a bridge to ETH 2.0, but will also remain on 1.0 where it will most likely die after some time. The way this is bridge transfer happens is still be discussed and thought out by Vitalik.

Lots of interesting and informative discussions going on over at ethresear.ch Go take a read!

Edit: To clarify, the bridge is one-way and you cannot cross back.

Will it be automatically done/handled by exchanges? I'd be worried for the people who aren't keeping up with it and are still holding eth 1.0 then trying to spend it

That would be up to the exchange. The exchange controls the wallet storage software. They are normally informative on these kinds of things to their customers and will most likely update to Serenity (2.0).

This is not a hardfork, so there will not be a chain split. Transactions on 1.0 will still occur as just as normal as long as there are nodes and Proof of Work miners. I’m sure we’ll see things slow down once Serenity is fully established as a lot of Ether from 1.0 will have already crossed over to 2.0.
