Somali to Mori no Kamisama - Discussion

Hello, I don't see a discussion thread on this anime, so I thought I'd create one.

Quote:The world is ruled by spirits, goblins, and all manner of strange creatures. Human beings are persecuted, to the very point of extinction. One day, a golem and a lone human girl meet.

This is a record of the pair, one a member of a ruined race, the other a watchman of the forest. It tells of their travels together and of the bond between father and daughter.

You can find more about the anime, here: (I cannot post links -- Remove the space between https and :) https ://myanimelist.net/anime/39575/Somali_to_Mori_no_Kamisama

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there really is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.

At times Somali can be a little annoying and irritating, but her being a child it's understandable.

Really curious to know what people are thinking of this anime so far? At one point, it was #2 most popular anime this season, but it's not anymore.
I'm personally enjoying it and it's a very nice anime to relax to.
I thought it was an anime about the country Somali xD

Havent watched it, is it good? I personally dont watch animes rated below 8.0 on MAL but i have watched Tokyo Ghoul season :re and some SAO and some others that very still very good. :RE was shit to be honest, but SAO and naruto is great of the ones below 8.0.

I could consider watching this one, if it is any good :D

Hmm, of course it really depends on your taste. At the moment it's a very slow anime, but not slow enough where you are absolutely bored and miserable.
The art-style is pretty good. I like the pretty colors and the animation used. I haven't rated it yet, but if I were I'd give it a 7 or an 8. It's got some cute wholesome moments in it.

I'd recommend watching the first episode and seeing if you'd like to continue after that. I believe the latest episode that was released was ep 3 so there isn't much of a storyline for me to give you and give you an idea of whether you would like it or not.

In short the best description I can give without spoiling it: loli human lives in a world where all humans are killed off or are slaves to monsters (There's nothing graphic or cruel in this anime so those who aren't into gore and stuff will be fine). A forest golem meets the loli human in the forest and plans on helping this loli human get back with her birth parents. And thus, their adventure through monster infested lands begins together.

That wasn't the best explanation, but that's all I have. :P

You should reconsider watching anime before 8, there are some hidden gems that aren't rated too highly because it's not meant for a huge mainstream audience and you could probably find hundreds of lower rated anime that most people don't enjoy but you will.

Here are my thoughts on the latest episode, episode 4!

Spoiler (Click to View)
the golem looks awkward as hell in the anime but other than that I have no complaints with this anime. hopefully now that it has an anime we'll get some higher quality scans of the manga
Don't have much to say about the latest episode, but we finally get to see another human. I don't think Golem is going to do anything to harm the harpy girl (Uzoi), but I'm interested in seeing how he difuses the situation. You can see in the preview Somali trying to escape from her, so we know the very least she puts up a fight and tries to run away. My thoughts are as she's doing so, she'll try and convince Uzoi that violence isn't the answer to this situation, but at the same time since Somali is so young she probably doesn't have the experience to think that way. So eventually, Haitora and Golem will catch up to save Somali.

I'm also interested in seeing what happens once the situation is defused. I doubt Golem and Somali are going to die off anytime soon (if they do at all), but I predict after some verbal altercations with everyone that she'll come to realize what she did was wrong and everyone will be on their way. After that, I'd like to see if Haitora passes away from being sick or if he survives and everyone goes their separate ways or they continue to cross the desert still. I believe it's the latter because they need that cart obviously to travel.
Episode 6 was a rainbow of emotions. There were some good, some sad, it was all over the place. I enjoyed this episode a lot and I thought it was very good. We were able to learn more about Uzoi and Haitora's past and they did it in a way that wouldn't bore us or completely take a whole episode to give us the information. Haitora's past as a human is as sad as every other human's. He lost his family in a very disturbing way and it's really weird how he was able to survive but they didn't. The episode didn't state it, but I guess the reason why Haitora is so sick is because of the flesh he ate of Uzoi's mother. That's the only thing that makes sense considering his wife and kid suffered the same thing as him, changing form and growing feathers, as well as coughing up blood. But for whatever reason, he was able to live. Maybe it was a sign of some sort. Maybe Haitora living was a sign that he had to pay for what he did, not only killing Uzoi's mother but what he did to his family. However, I don't think what happened to his family was necessarily his fault. When you are out to fend for yourself, it's survival of the fittest and he did what he thought was the best for his family.

As for Uzoi, we don't learn as much about her besides what happens to her mother, but since she was so young it makes sense that Haitora pretty much becomes her father. And I think the love she has for him is of a father and not a lover (boyfriend) which makes sense and I ship it.

Thankfully, the situation was resolved quickly and no further actions occurred. The only thing spicy that happened, of course, was Uzoi listening to the story that Haitora was telling Golem about her mother.

It's good to see that the two made up and I honestly thought Haitora was going to die trying to save Somali and Uzoi, but I am happy that Uzoi saved him and then proceeded to let her know how much he means to her. I think we'll get to see where they leave off the next episode and then from there, they will say their goodbyes and Somali and Golem will be met with their next group of individuals, the witches.

Oh, and as I've tried to remember for the past episodes and even almost forgot to write in this post, I love the colors used in this anime. Maybe I did mention it in an earlier post, but regardless, I have to say it. The colors pop in a nice, enticing way.
As someone who has read the manga I really enjoy it.
The past few episodes have been fairly sad. Episode seven is no exception. The episode tickled your emotions, for what most of us like to call it "the feels".

We were able to learn more about the humans in episode seven and their past life, through the story of a very old witch that lived long enough to write a story about the interaction between humans and other beings. It turns out, the humans were originally the ones that were cruel in the world. Whenever they saw something they couldn't identify as human, even if it were friendly, they would kill it and verbally abuse them.

The witch says that she shouldn't have written the story and that she was the reason that the humans are being killed or kept as slaves. And as much as this might be true, it might be a coincidence as Golem stated in the anime.

The witches' relative was able to make friends with a human despite being a witch. Everyone else thought she was a monster. It's weird that they didn't feel anything hateful towards the Golem. Maybe because he let them live in his land they grew to think differently of him, but he's no different from the other monsters. He lacks emotions, he could probably kill them off in an instant if he tried, so I'm wondering why he was an acception. It's weird they didn't talk much about him.

I'm not surprised the monsters in the current era of the anime treat the humans the way they do for what the humans did in the past from this flashback story. However, I think it's the Golem and Somali who can re-write the story and make everyone become friends again.

One other thing is the witches didn't care too much that Somali wasn't human. Probably because they care more about knowledge and learning rather than violence and I think it's cool they were able to help them.

Now that the head witch gave them a course to go, the remaining episodes will be Somali and Golem heading towards the end of the world. I do wonder if what will happen if they do encounter humans. Are they going to be all dead? Will it be a slave town? We'll have to find out and see.

Despite this episode being a tone that we aren't used to from this anime, the colors were still bright and beautiful as always, which this anime seems to proudly portray to us and I do like that.

I believe next episode is going to be a filler, but see you all next week!
Okay, the above post is wrong. That should be a review about episode eight, not seven. Turns out, I had skipped episode seven because I'm a big dummy. No review for the actual episode seven in this post, but I might do one in the future. Probably not. I'm actually mad that I didn't download that episode lmao. I was wondering how Somali and Golem got to the witches place so quickly.

Ah, you live and you learn!

Episode nine was a nice episode to watch. This anime is a very wholesome one to watch if I must say. There are some emotional times and some drama during others, but overall it's a nice one to watch and relax.

Somali loses her first tooth! She was super scared probably because she thought they were going to find out she was human. I guess she believed that since she was going to lose it, it was a human-only thing. Turns out monsters in the anime lose their teeth too. She was also scared once she lost it that it will never grow back, but she learns from the dentist that she'll grow it back eventually.

Shizuno asks Golem is Somali is a human and it's nice to see that there are monsters that don't care that she is, but they are curious to know about them. I think it's good that the friends that Somali and Golem have met support them.

The next episode seems like a small filler. It looks like we might get a little more history on Somali's childhood in the forest.
A really interesting episode! We were able to figure out more about how Somali and Golem met. We even get to learn about how Somali gets her name.

This episode went by so fast I was upset when it ended. The ending was very drama-filled and I knew once Rosa hugged Somali she knew something was up with her. Next episode is going to be a fun one and I cannot wait for next week. It's a shame there are only two episodes left!
