How Runescape Is Helping Venezuela's Economy

How Runescape Is Helping Venezuela's Economy

Websites have been known for selling Runescape gold for years, but what may shock you is the fact that Venezuela has started to rely on the fact that the game can make money for themselves. Due to Venezuela's economy, they all struggle to put food on the table and even live, so they have had to find a new way to make money to keep themselves going.

If you are reading this, I would expect you to know what Runescape is and what it is all about.
But I know that there are going to be a few who might not know much about it so I will first explain it. Runescape is an MMORPG. That stands for a massive multiplayer online role-playing game. You can interact with other people in the game and kill monsters and even do quests. If you would like to learn all the details about the game, I am sure you can just do a quick google search and find out all about the game.

So let's get into the real question you came here for how is Venezuela making money from Runescape? Well, it's quite a story and you may need to sit back to read this one. Venezuela has always been known to make most of their money if not all of it from oil but since 2014 the price of oil fell to a point to where Venezuela couldn't make enough money to even live off the stuff, and so one day people who had access to the internet tried to find ways to make money and came across the fact that you could play a game to make money, granted it wasn't going to be easy since it's not really allowed but who can stop all of them when the internet is so big and it would be hard to catch each and everyone who sells Runescape's currency (gold) to websites which offer money for Runescape's currency known as “gold.”

I do not have an estimate of how much money Venezuela is making from the game since it is very hard to track such a thing.
But I do believe that over two million people in Venezuela are part of the action, I also know about three hundred thousand accounts originating in Venezuela have been doing this since about 2018 as a developers blog mentioned about an uprise of people joining in several different places. I have also noticed a very high amount of forum activity from many people in Venezuela so if our numbers are wrong and I have overestimated how many people who are really doing this I must be somewhat correct due to the higher activity of members from Venezuela.

To this day, Venezuela is farming gold in many different ways since you can make gold in uncountable ways in the game.
The most commonly known way to make gold is killing monsters like dragons and getting items that can sell for quite a bit since the items are needed to make potions and even required to complete quests. Some of these items are very rare and have a drop rate of over 1 in 1/10,817 that's a 0.009% chance on the kill, so the value for the items can be very high since the item that can drop is so rare. With this in mind, there are so many players playing the game daily just playing to make money & can extract millions of gold coins to websites and make a lot of money.

With all this new information, I can see many of you asking how much gold is worth, well I can easily help with that question.
The price of gold can be a little bit of a flexible price since you can buy gold in larger amounts and the price per million can be a little less, but on average one million gold coins go for about $0.89 USD but if you are lucky and find a good website that sells Runescape gold for even cheaper and makes everything easy for yourself.

In conclusion, if you are looking to make money as a young child who can't get a job yet or just want to make money on the side. All you gotta do is a little bit of research and use some of your free time to play a free game called Runescape and maybe even you could be making enough money to be living a life like the Venezuela people who have managed to keep the country going. It may take some time before you start making a good amount per hour since the game requires you to have a good number of levels to kill higher leveled monsters but once you get into the swing of things you can be selling gold in no time.

Correct they honestly have amazed me with the whole thing, I have contacted websites to do my research about the whole thing and they told me that almost %30 of there coins were being made from people in Venezuela.

They also told me about how most of them bot it and how that's how everyone makes gold these days but I didn't want to write about how it's done completely.

That's extraordinarily high. RSGP has not been at that price in a year+. Both OS and RS3.

The price is an average of sites I came across from googling Runescape gold

EDIT: Also Holy shit their gold prices are really low!

alch.com is the go to site for purchasing now.
I ran around trying to do this but it never worked out

There's only about 50k-70k players on OSRS at a time, and real players vastly outnumber Venezuelans.  If I had to guess, there's probably around 1,000 daily active individuals in the RWT market.

Dragons drop bones for training prayer and hides for training crafting at a 100% rate.  They have no high value rare drops, they merely provide consistent consumable training items that other players prefer to trade for instead of gather themselves.

OSRS gold currently sells for $.55/million.  Even on Playerauctions (which takes a fee from the vendor), you can see listings for $.61/million (https://www.playerauctions.com/osrs-gold/).

Thank you for sharing you view at the facts that I have stated. Like I have mentioned these are averages from 3 days of research. Granted the reason why the gold price is so high is due to the fact that I was looking at websites that are clearly reselling gold at a very high price. I didn't use sites like player auctions as they sell everything. I only used sites that were selling gold for osrs and rs3 nothing else. The main reason why the average is so high is that the one's selling is also using ads on google and so I really shouldn't have counted them but I did in the final edition and so your numbers would probably be better to use but granted the notes are fine.
I know the fact that getting the bones is the main income but the rarer drops are also a heavy income since they use so many accounts at once the chances are lower and easier to get.
The player count is from 2018 stats that I found online so I would guess if your correct then the site is wrong.

I'm happy to see "oldschool runescape" is benefiting Venezuela citizens , what I struggle to grasp is old school runescape is on the verge of dying if the game doesn't do something about cutting down the amount of hours you have to put in just to pk , like they should sell 99's for 10$ a pop (combat only) as for skills sell xp lamps , but leave the questing still.

There's no rare drop there.

The only NPCs that Venezuelan gold farmers fight that may have a rare drop are revs and Zolcano. They don't really farm anything else with potential expensive loot. They'd rather go for the consistent loot with low gear/stat requirements. Anything with rare/expensive drops either requires expensive gear, high stats, or both.
that is not make sense for me. become youtuber would be better and reasonable to get more money than just playing game. Adsense from google is the best since google is big company that can pay you higher of course. I rather build reputation as youtuber than gamer but doing both streaming to youtube while gaming is the best option

Ngl that is one of the dumbest things I've read on this forum today so far. The reason OSRS is as popular with its current audience as it is is that you actually have to put in the effort in order to progress, and when you get there it actually feels rewarding. Not the short-term, instant dopamine rush you might be used to from some other games, but a long-term process that actually gives the players a sense of achievement.
If you think PKing is the only thing that game has to offer, that mindset is probably why you're not enjoying it.

As for the OP, this is old news to anyone in the OSRS community. This was first covered on YouTube a few years ago iirc, which was famously watched and reacted to live on stream by Asmongold. Apart from that, there are a few inaccuracies in the OP (I think it might be a copy-paste?) but I still think it's interesting for anyone who didn't know yet.
OSRS isn't the only game Venezuelans are RWTing in. This is logical, considering any halway decent player can make far beyond the average wages in those countries just by playing a game and RWTing. Imagine the comparison to those of them who either already had or have since gained the skills necessary to run a botfarm.

One thing I will note, though, is that the OSRS botting and RWT business has always thrived and will always thrive. Recently I've seen multiple YouTube videos claiming they spoke to botters/goldfarmers saying recent months have been their least profitable in a long time etc, those people need to reconsider what clients, scripts, proxies etc they might be using. Or they might just be slacking as of late.
There are people who eventually end up botting to max, and people who reach the first page of certain skills by 100% botting, just as a part of their farm.

The problem with that idea is they can't just decide to become a YouTuber and immediately start getting paid. Finding a niche, building a brand for yourself and gaining and maintaining an audience all take time to achieve. Additionally, many of the Venezuelan gold farmers I've come across in the game speak little to no English, so their potential audience is pretty limited.
Whereas with something like OSRS RWT, you can start making some money basically from day one. Or at least within the first week.

That and the fact making quality video content takes an investment that most of those people simply can't even dream of affording, until they've made enough money doing something else.
