Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun - Discussion

Hello, I don't see a discussion thread on this anime, so I thought I'd create one.

This anime is also known as: Toilet-bound Hanako-kun
Quote:"Hanako-san, Hanako-san...are you there?"

At Kamome Academy, rumors abound about the school's Seven Mysteries, one of which is Hanako-san. Said to occupy the third stall of the third floor girls' bathroom in the old school building, Hanako-san grants any wish when summoned. Nene Yashiro, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom...but the Hanako-san she meets there is nothing like she imagined! Kamome Academy's Hanako-san...is a boy!

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.

As for me, I shall use spoiler codes for the first three episodes. After that, I will not use the spoiler code anymore.

For some reason, this anime is highly discussed and well-liked. However, I find it average. The artwork is nothing special but I will compliment that we do not see the colors and style used quite often. For that, I will give it good criticism. Despite having a weird title to it, the story is not bad at all and it keeps you watching. It's nothing too exciting and I am not fully engaged in it all the time (despite me saying it keeps you busy) but that's mostly because I don't care too much about supernatural genre anime. Why am I watching it? To give you a general idea of whether or not you'd like the anime or not. :)

The rating for this anime on MAL is 7.76, close to an 8. For my taste, it's a 6, 7 at best. I just can't seem to see what people are raving so much about. Let me know what you guys think of this anime!
I forgot I made a discussion thread for this anime! Oops. The latest episode was fine. I enjoyed it. Tsuchigomori is an interesting character and the person who voices him is my absolute favorite. We learn more about Hanako and his past and this upsets Nene terribly because of how sad it is. Of course, Hanako can read her body language and tell that she's upset so he asks Tsuchigomori if he told her anything. I believe that Hanako knows that he's lying, but who knows Hanako can be gullible at times.

I'm wondering if the next episode will go more into Hanako's past. If not, I also wonder if what happened to him in the past is going to haunt Nene and eventually she'll end up telling him that he knows all about him.

During the library scene, we learn that Hanako likes donuts! And that's what the next episode is going to be about, which makes me think we'll get to learn more about him as I said in the previous paragraph. This isn't my favorite anime, but it's starting to pick up for me and I hope it continues to be like this. I do enjoy Tsuchigomori, so I hope to see him more.

With that being said, I think the next episode will be more of a filler and we won't see another apparition or another wonder of the school, but let's see!
We find out that Hanako has a brother, and from what it turns out, Hanako ended up killing him. The story is finally getting interesting to me. I thought this episode was a good one. Not only did we learn about Hanako last episode, but we were able to learn a little more about him this episode.

This means the next episode most likely will go more into Hanako's past which will give us a better idea of who he is because from what I see, he keeps hiding things from everyone. Maybe for the better.

The new apparition we met from the rumor that Sakura made up is interesting. I am wondering if we'll see more of him because the ending was fairly funny.

I'm also curious why she and Akane are trying to change rumors. For those that do not know, or do not remember, apparition's can change based on rumors.

See you guys next week. :)
We learn more about the mysterious Mitsuba, an apparition, that we meet at the end of the last episode. Episode 8 was a sad one, and it'll be a long-lasting memory for Kou. I think this was a good episode because we were able to see more about him, rather than Nene. Something to change it up a bit.

It turns out, Kou and Mitsuba met previously. I think that they would have been pretty good friends, but it's nice to know that in Mitsuba's afterlife, Kou considered him a friend. It's a shame that Mitsuba ended up dying, but because of this, we were able to learn a small amount about Tsukasa, who is Hanako's brother.

I'm guessing Sakura isn't too well-liked or known by the student body considering that Kou didn't react at all when Tsukasa told her to create a fake rumor about Mitsuba. If so, he would have been able to remember that and tell Hanako and Nene that. Interested to see what they have in store for us next episode.
Huh, it seems that people enjoyed episode 10. It was okay, nothing special in my opinion. Interesting that it is a two-part segment so I'm wondering what we'll be getting next episode.

Quite a few people were excited to see Mitsuba. He is an interesting character but I think him returning might be bad for Nene's and Kou's sake.

We see Tsukasa, Hanako's evil brother come in to save the day. He's as violent as ever and the ending was kind of dark and disturbing.

With two more episodes left, let's hope they end the series off with a bang.
We slowly reach the end of the road for the Winter 2020 season. Here I'll be doing my review on Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun also known as Toilet-bound Hanako-kun.

Overall, I'm going to give this anime a 6/10. It's crazy to see how far the story went for this anime. I remember watching the first episode like it was yesterday, and as I watched the final episode it was so crazy to reflect on what has happened in the past.

The characters weren't too bad. I didn't find any special at all. However, I did think the artwork was fairly unique, colorful, and enjoyable to look at.

Originally, I believe I had a seven or an eight for the rating. I went back down because I just felt the story was boring and very lacking. There was nothing that kept me interested in watching. I struggled to get by every episode.

Just like other anime this season, I believe there was a hint of a second season throughout the ending scenes of this episode. If so, we'll be able to see more apparitions and maybe we'll even see Hanako and Nene become an official couple. I say that because even though they are technically one through the wish Nene made in the first episode, they don't act too much like one. That's debatable, I can't say that. But now, you get what I mean.

If there is a second season, yes I do plan on watching it. Maybe we'll get to learn more about Hanako and his brother Tsukasa more. Additionally, I'd like to have known more about Sakura and even Natsuhiko.

Anyways, to end this review, I don't believe I'd recommend this to anyone. It honestly comes down to your opinion. I don't have a great argument on whether or not you should see this. The reviews are mixed and from the majority of people, it seems I'm one of the few who dislike it.
