Hello community,

These days iam making some tests in a virtual enviromet that i have set up.

I use Ettercap to make a dns spoof attack.

The attack works well but i have some questions.

The first question is that, how the attacks works with the iptables line in etter.conf commented?

When i uncomment these lines, i have the following error: "Fatal: Cant insert firewall redirects".

The second question, when the attack is working, i open wireshark and i cannot see any dns requests from the attacker.
However, if i do nslookup from the client to the website i chosen in the etter.dns file, the results return the IP specified again in the etter.dns file.

I dont know it seems really weird and i would like to ask you for help, because i rly want to understand how this attack works.

could you post a copy of your etter.conf so i could give you a hand. Im trying to imagine what it looks like and go from there but if you just copy paste it here i could probably help fix it within seconds and a lot easier than trying to think without seeing it lol.

No problem friend. So I took a look at your conf. Is that your normal setup. If it is I noticed you haven't yet uncommented the iptables section. If thats the case then uncomment the iptables section aswell as your other preferred settings and you should be good

Yeah but when i uncomment the iptables lines, i have this error: "Fatal: Cant insert firewall redirects"

And when they are commented the attacks works.

I dont know how is this possible.

ah. thats odd. Sorry for my late replies. Was just finishing some stuff up on my server. Hmm what OS are you running etter on. I know its virtual. Oh wait a minute. I wonder if since its a virtual envir. if theres some error with a driver of something thats screwing with the iptables setting. I havent used virtual machines in a while because I used to always get errors with drivers, especially wireless drivers (though this was many years ago). Though it lowers my security i just dual boot a full install of kali linux and windows 10. But ya, so what OS is on your Virtual Envir. and have you checked to see if some driver is screwing with your OS. And im active now, so i an reply to you asap.
