Kaspr - Social networking with privacy.

Apps are being made now, works on mobile devices. It's essentially Facebook & Twitter & Instagram put into one platform where user privacy is more important than any sort of profit. There are also no ads. We are about to leave our beta testing phase.

Yes, I am the developer of this.

This simply reminds me of twitter, however, I am interested in seeing where you take this. I’d suggest rebranding to something better for Social Media glory as well.

Good luck.

I don’t plan on rebranding. Already received investors & investment money & the whole consept of the whole site is peivacy over profit and people seem to respect that & use the platform more

Overall, this website seems to have the basics down when it comes to what a social network should have. There are some issues, though:
  • When I was registering, I didn't have a complete enough password. The page refreshed and pushed the sign-up box further down my page to the point where I couldn't even scroll down and I had to retry numerous times to even complete the sign-up process.
  • The lack of any logo or branding makes it so that the site has no identity or emotional feeling to it. When I got into the site, it felt like a blank canvas - and not in a good way.
  • The dropdown menu (account settings, profile, and logout) has black text, when it should be white or another color that goes with the blue background.
  • As a new member, I have no idea how to socialize with other members (not popular users). There is no way (at least that I can tell) to find friends or gain followers aside from the "trending" list.
  • Having a subscription service seems to be an improper strategy for an up and coming social media platform. Why would anyone want to join a new social network where you have to pay for increased image quality on posts?

Like I said, you're on the right track, but this seems to come up short in many areas if it is indeed meant to compete with other networks. It seems like a good start, but it needs to have some minor bugs and other issues fixed before anyone should take this seriously.
I'd rethink the idea of limiting image quality for users unless they pay. We live in a very visual world where photos and videos generally are posted more than text these days. I'm not sure how much it's limited, but if most people can still upload higher quality images it might be a turn off for users who enjoy detail and quality in their posts.

Like the idea of someone trying to start a social media website focusing on keeping privacy for the users though.

I appreciate the feedback, and I had no idea about the registration bug. I'll get to fixing that ASAP! The dropdown menu colors are recent, I have it fixed locally, it's fixed in the update coming out tomorrow. I've also received a lot of feedback on the whole no idea on how to get started after registering, and I'm thinking of ways to fix that.

With the whole subscription thing, I want to make it to where people don't feel like they HAVE to buy it. Image quality for unupgraded users is only reduced by 15%, which is still less than Facebook's default compression. The way I'm running Kaspr is kind of the same way Wikipedia runs. "I won't bombard you with ads and I won't sell your data, and if you're appreciative of that & have spare cash, throw it my way". I have a whole other brand called Kaspr Software where I release free software with the "if you like it, check us out on Patreon!"

I'm not really trying to make money from this project, and I am open to all suggestions and criticism, I'd appreciate if you checked in every now and then to see progress & give me more helpful feedback.

The image compression for unupgraded users is only 15%, which is still less than the default compression that Facebook has, the monthly subscription is mostly a donation thing, I don't want people to feel too inclined to buy it, but I might remove the image quality thing from the list of paid features.

To get people going in the right direction when they first register, I would maybe introduce some kind of tutorial or getting started program that guides the new user through the essentials of the site. For instance, when you register at Twitter it has you follow certain people or hashtags; YouTube does this so that you may populate your feed with content to keep you engaged as well. I hope this helps!

Thank you, I appreciate it! I'll be sure to add that in the next update :)

So you plan on making profit by selling users the ability to upload high res images? I don't think you should start doing this right away, get a lot of users first..

Anyway, there are some CSS issues (registration box isn't centered properly, causing the 'sign up' box to be unreachable (its not on screen, and you used position fixed so you cant scroll to it).
Also, you should show the password requirement before users enter it
You should suggest accounts/pages/interests when people sign up, so people dont start with an empty timeline
Email confirmation page is empty
Request URL: https://kaspr.co/api/editprofile/save gives a 404 on certain requests
I suggest using a different icon, or even better just a button, to follow users since the current one is really bad UX
the user menu text is black on a green background, hard to read
errormessages dont hide when the users fixes input
you are still console-logging responses
you should re-check your security overall, I'm pretty sure I can make myself Founder

edit profile is supposed to throw a 404 on invalid requests, the black text on the green background will be fixed (accidentally did that when adding the theme changer)

i’ll remove all the console logs

pm me if you’re able to make yourself gold or a founder please
