What for do you use that ridiculous speed? I have 32Mbps download and 9Mbps upload. Well basically i can do whatever i want without limiting myself. If you're just a casual gamer 1gigabit is overkill. But for me multitasking comes first, so i gotta do a lot of things at once where i'm required to download stuff without interruption Жизнь это не те дни, что прошли, а те, что запомнились

For the masses its unnecessary. Its not like they can run a server on a home connection, if their ISPs found out they'll be terminated or forced to pay for a business connection. The benefit everyone would feel is low latency and maybe download speeds depending on the drive they write to and connection type. To add damage people today add trash IOT devices or wire taping devices on their network on a cheap consumer router. Honestly I could be well with 500Mb down and low latency. What is the price for 1gbps where you live ? Жизнь это не те дни, что прошли, а те, что запомнились

I have no problems with latency at all with my low speeds. I mean, I don't do anything spectacular online so I really don't need it. For web development and some graphic work I definitely don't need it, for browsing the internet, watching porn and youtube I don't need it, and for occasional download of a movie or tv show, I don't need it. Even if I wanted this speed that Dotexe has, I think none of the ISPs is offering it here in my country. (Mar 13, 2020 04:50 AM)Dotexe Wrote: That'd be fine as well. My dad is paying for fiber, it's advertised as 1Gb. Its roughly there depending on the day and test. Me personally I'd rather own the hardware than pay for ISP hardware, not sure if you can even own the hardware on a fiber connection. Luckily there's a solution, hybrid fiber with cable. Owning the hardware is definitely my goto as well. I remember when i was like 10 or so, we used to pay $20 for 5down/upload, and some shitty TV packages Жизнь это не те дни, что прошли, а те, что запомнились

My modem paid itself off after 5 months. I'd rather have the choice to install open wrt on my own hardware or far into the future for a larger network pfsense. Can't control my parents network but at least I can have my own DNS sever/sink hole setup. Can't complain when you aren't paying.
