Hello, I don't see a discussion thread on this anime, so I thought I'd create one.
Quote:Shingo Ichinomiya, a 25-year-old man working at a firm company, while thinking of tomorrow's busy working day, goes to sleep. However, when he woke up, he found himself in a room unknown to him and realized that he is inside a 6-years-old body, taking over his body and mind. He soon learns from the memories of the boy that the boy was born as the youngest child of a poor noble family living in a back country. Having no administrative skill, he can't do anything to manage the vast land his family has. Fortunately, he is blessed with a very rare talent, the talent of magic. Unfortunately, while his talent could bring prosperity to his family, in his situation it only brought disaster. This is the story of the boy, Wendelin Von Benno Baumeister, opening his own path in a harsh world.

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.
As for me, I shall use spoiler codes for the first three episodes. After that, I will not use the spoiler code anymore.
In the first episode of "The 8th son? Are you kidding me?" we are met with Well. A powerful magician in a foreign land. Before this, he was a typical office worker in Japan. He lived alone in an apartment and one night after cooking dinner, he ended up falling asleep at the table. He awakened to a party, which happened to be his brother's wedding. Around him, nobles and high-class citizens. The catch is that his family is poor. After realizing that it's not so much a dream anymore, he tries his best to decipher the situation. He finds a map to figure out where he even is, he figures out he has seven older brothers and he's the youngest of them all, and eventually, he finds out he can use magic.
So far we don't know much about him as an adult other than the fact that he can use powerful magic, but since we are getting a glimpse of his childhood we'll probably see how he worked his way up there for the next few episodes.
I truly hope that the pacing of this isn't rushed. We don't want to see him training one day and all of a sudden the next episode he's a full-grown adult with these epic powers. From the picture on the MAL page, I am going to assume that we'll be viewing this story of Well as an adult more so than him as a child.
The pacing of the first episode was alright. I felt it was a little slow and I got bored at certain times, but not to the point where I think I'd regret picking up this anime. It is the first episode, after all, we have room for improvement.
The story seems okay. Nothing too special out of this. I am looking forward to seeing what this anime brings to the season. Meaning, is it going to pass my judgment or flop.
From what I can tell it's your typical isekai anime. From the MAL discussion page, so I can get a general idea of how I wanted to get the ball rolling for my discussion, there are mixed reviews. People are saying it looks trash, others think it looks okay, and some are generally interested in this series. The animation doesn't look too bad and I don't have any complaints so far regarding that.
There were multiple characters introduced throughout the first episode. We have some cute girls we know nothing about from when Well is older, and we also have Well's family when he is younger. The only problem I have is the number of brothers he has. Furthermore, the least they could have done is to do a better job of making them look different. If you haven't noticed, which you will, there are so many long, weird names in this anime. With that being said, you're getting all these random people thrown at you that look the same. I guess that they won't be in the anime too long or eventually their image will change as Well gets older.
What are your thoughts on this anime?

Another anime with the Isekai tag on it. Not only that but it's based on (the similar) the LN (This truly is satisfying for a LN Isekai trash person like me) from 2013 if I reminisce it correctly.
Let me say that I'm loving it already if that isn't clear already. This genre it does something with me. The possibility of another world. I really enjoy the idea.
Can't wait until the next episode so I've looked into the Light novel and let me say this OMG I hate the way they translated the LN. It's like they just loaded that whole thing into Google translate and then they randomly deleted words or some (...) 😭.
Example (Spoiler?)
Quote:"After lunch is magic training and after dinner is continued magic practice "
"I peel the skin and try to bite it into but after I use magic to detect poison. And the taste of sweet fruit juice gradually spreads in my mouth."
Even as a non native english speaker.. This translation...... It makes me want to stab a hot knife into my eyeball.
Well there are some similarities with the LN (but they aren't doing things in chronological order...)
Episode two was a good one. I enjoyed it. The rating of this anime at the current time of this discussion post is 6.50. It's sad to see Alfred pass away, he was a good teacher. We already saw a glimpse of Well's magic in the first episode, and I am going to assume that he slowly gets better and better as we are going to expect from him, as Alfred said his magic ability will be greater than his.
This episode was a weird one. I didn't take it into account, but others watching did. The last episode Well acted more like the 25-year-old office worker he is than in episode two. In episode two, they said he acted like he was five, which is his current age in this isekai. Looking back at it, that's interestingly weird.
Throughout this episode, you could see the true feelings of Well from his older brother Kurt and father. It's funny to see them despise him so much, yet they have no idea how powerful he is going to become. Maybe they both tried to use the crystal ball to see if they had any powers but they had zero to none. Of course, they would be jealous if the youngest in the family had the strongest powers in the family.
I believe that Alfred was the closest thing that Well had to a father in the past two episodes. He taught him so much and I'm sure that will influence him to become better as I mentioned earlier. The ending of the episode with the tree branch growing as Well aged was kind of sad too. But I think it shows growth and progression and we should look at it as a positive thing rather than sad.
The pacing was a bit weird but it wasn't terrible. I would say things weren't rushed too much but at the same time, I think it was. In two episodes, two weeks went by so it wasn't terrible, but eh.
Well wants to join an adventure academy, as he sees no use to becoming a lord at his current manor as he does not want to mess with what Kurt has. I think that alone shows how good of a person Well is. He rather chooses his enjoyment and his path in life, rather than taking something from someone else.
Someone mentioned on MAL, "Did they even need to mention that Well was originally a 25-year-old office worker?" And that had me thinking after this episode. Did they need to? Probably not. This could easily pass as a regular fantasy/adventure anime.
Now we fast forward and the next episode will most likely be Well in his teenage years as he travels to the academy. I'm wondering how many episodes will be dedicated to the academy and Well as a teenager. We already know that he is a lord in his adult life as well as part of a group, but I'm wondering when we'll get to see him as an adventurer for real.
I don't mind seeing Well growing up, I think that adds some good character development. Rather than seeing him as the most powerful character instantly, we get to see how he got to that point.
Lastly, before leaving we can see his mother and his sister-in-law wishing him goodbye. I think it's interesting that the father and his brother didn't wish him goodbye. Maybe out of jealousy or hate, but I think in the future we'll see them more as an enemy of Well. I also hope his mother and sister aren't pleading for forgiveness in the future either. I want Well to be independent of his family and prove them wrong.
Episode three.
I enjoyed episode three. We finally get to see Well set out on his journey. The first few episodes were okay, but his family is just a bunch of buttheads and I am very happy to see him on his own.
There are some complaints about this anime saying that we still don't see how Well improves his magic. We just started seeing him at the academy and he is already stronger than everyone there. It also seems he is the only magic-user. While I agree it does suck we don't see him get stronger through the academy, we will start to see some more action now that he has formed a team with his classmates.
It was funny but also annoying how everyone was trying to get his attention in class so that they could be Well's partner. He just wanted someone to group up with him while everyone else assumed he wanted the best of the best. Because he's been so alone for all these years it makes sense that he wants some friends.
Another complaint people made was that this anime could have skipped the whole isekai thing. We only got two minutes of him in his past life and it seems he has completely forgotten hat he was a 25-year-old office worker. Additionally, people are complaining that even though he was 25 in his past life, he is forgetting stuff like having social skills and I can see why this might make people upset. It's indeed weird that he isn't referencing his past life anymore and I do also agree that it's odd he cannot act older than he truly is.
We have the best girl introduced! Ena, the redhead. I don't know much about her but red-headed characters are my favorite.
Well inherits his master's mansion as well as gets a 1,000 coin payment for delivering some goods to the Duke. Not bad for someone his age. I'm wondering if he'll use that money to buy armor and weapons. From what we've seen in the first episode where he is much older, he learns how to use a sword too so I'm wondering if next episode he'll get sword training.
Let's see what next week has for us.
Very decent episode four. Nothing special. Looks like there are flying devices called magic airships that can travel you from one place to another. I'm wondering if you have to have a lot of money to use them (or if you have to pay at all) if you have to be a certain social class, or if it's just a matter of where it's going. I think it's a matter of where it's going and if you have money to pay for the ride, like a plane ticket. It looked like there were just average people on it, so thinking you have to be a certain social class is just silly.
The airships are weird. They aren't like your typical airplanes. I'd say it's more like a flying cruise and if those were real, that would be interesting!
An ancient undead dragon flies through the sky and it seems the only way to destroy an undead monster is to purify it, as Well did with his master.
He ended up defeating it pretty easily. The CGI wasn't that great and Well's flying animations looked really bad at times. The fight was boring, but Well was able to collect the bones and a mysterious red ruby crystal that I thought had more meaning to it, but it didn't. Turns out, he was advised to collect them because of their value!
After arriving at the capital, Well was requested to visit the king I am assuming. Well was promoted to a baronet which I guess is a very high rank. This also made him a true noble. I also believe this means he is a higher ranking than his family members, where the highest member in their family was only able to reach knight. I like this because it shows how Well is succeeding, despite one of his older brothers and father saying how he could never use magic. Baronet is the sixth ranking and I'm sure that he'll keep ranking up as the anime progresses!
One of his seven brothers has a wedding. It was a bit confusing but I'm guessing he paid for the groom's gifts instead of his older brothers. Of course, he has the money, but I felt like they were using him despite the tone of the discussion is friendly.
All the interruptions and silly dialogue in this anime always make me laugh. Despite being average, this anime was quite funny!
Also, not that Well is a baronet people are flocking to him to get married as well as to join his party. Next episode it seems the cardinal wants Well to get married to his daughter? She do be lookin' cute 'doe. I'm interested in seeing what happens next!
I mentioned it before, but this anime could have gone without using the isekai tag.. We already stated how there was no point in even mentioning it.
More of a slow episode, but it wasn't bad. We meet the girl in the preview from the last episode. I might have said it was the Cardinal's daughter we were meeting, but it's his granddaughter, Elise.
Well is what, 14 now and he's already getting engaged! Although there are still planned marriages done today, I don't believe it's as common in America. You usually go on a few dates, see if you like the person, and it's usually years later that you propose to them. Not instant engagement like this where you are engaged within one minute.
If you don't remember, I'll refresh your mind. It was most likely the first episode, we saw Well when he was around 25-30 years of age. He had a guild house and he was living with who he's currently partied with, as well as a woman we didn't know too much about. I completely forgot they had another party member.
I usually skip the intro to most anime unless it's outstandingly good so I also forgot about this here:
Here is Elise, Well's bride to be.
![[Image: lK0pm8z.png]](https://i.imgur.com/lK0pm8z.png)
We learn that she's a magic user and can heal people. It looks like healing magic is one of the rarest and hardest skill to have or something like that. I'm not sure if everyone in the church has the ability, but they mentioned other nuns receiving training too.
What sets Well apart from the other people is that even though the people in this anime get along with their arranged marriage, he does things differently. He genuinely looks out for her. I'm not saying the other people don't, considering his brother and his new step-sister are living happily together. Anyways, we can see that he asks for her consent, seeing if she's okay with the marriage. Additionally, when picking out a ring, he makes sure she likes it.
Wondering what the next episode will be like. I don't think they are going to fast forward time now because we need to learn more about Elise and Well's relationship.
Also, Er becomes a retainer or whatever. I'm not sure what that means. Maybe like a squire? I'm guessing it is.
Lastly, Ena and Louise are working together to become Well's wife! They want to have a "concubine" with him and I'm wondering if they will succeed.
Although the episode wasn't very-action packed (not like it is anyway), it was still an enjoyable episode. Well was tasked to take on destroying a dragon with Blanctag and a new character Armstrong who we later learn is Elise's uncle.
While the fight with the dragon wasn't anything crazy, at least they didn't use CGI this time around as they did with the undead dragon. We were able to see the powers of Armstrong. He can turn magic into items and weapons. The armor he creates with this magic supposedly has a stronger defense than a magical barrier which if you think about it is awesome.
Elise is curious to know more about Well. Which is understandable, they met for a day and they are already getting married. It's good that she's curious though. I like that because although she was sort of forced into the marriage she isn't staying quiet about it.
After successfully taking on the dragon, Er was able to lead a temporary army in place of Well and although there were a few casualties, they were able to succeed. It's a shame we didn't get to see any action.
The ending was very funny. I also liked Well's reaction to Armstrong being Elise's uncle. It looks like Ena and Louise were able to complete the operation concubine mission! Well has three wives now and as weird as that sounds to me, I guess that's a good thing for Well?!
Nothing special. Another slow, somewhat boring episode. But I think it will pick up the next episode. I still think it's weird we are watching Well as a teenager still. However, at the same time, I am liking the pace of this anime. I wouldn't say his childhood was rushed. Only slightly. We understand that he's great when it comes to using magic and his teacher was a well-known one too and he passed on his training to Well and predicted that Well would surpass him. That's fine, I knew that was coming, and as the main character, everyone could see that coming too.
I just believe that seeing how he got to where he was before going to adventurer school would have been sweet. Right off the start, he's overpowered and it shouldn't be like that. It would be nice for him to gradually progress there first.
Anyways, I also think that this anime could be a two-cour one, meaning 24 episodes instead of 12. If it was 24 instead of 12, we could get a non-rushed childhood and more play for the latter half of the anime.
Talking about this episode, another one of his brothers gets married. Not that it matters since you can't even distinguish any of his brothers. While at his brother's wedding, he learns that as a noble you have to participate in some tournament at least once. It's good to see everyone working hard and training to prepare for this tournament. I also enjoyed seeing Well for once not be overpowered. It gave us a little break from him destroying everything.
I'm not sure how Er did, considering we didn't see who won the final match between him and Warren. I think it ended up going well though considering that Warren is mentoring Er. Additionally, Ena is getting some training too! As for Ena, I just realized her voice actress is Arte's voice actress. Did I mention that before? Probably.
We get to see Armstrong again as he takes on Well as his student with the addition of Louise too. This will be interesting since Armstrong is a clown and I'm sure how he is as a character will bring laughter.
I'm wondering when we will start to see everyone as an adult. I'm guessing towards the end, maybe two more episodes in we'll see everyone grown up.
Overall, episode eight was fairly boring but we finally advance more in time. Well is now 15 or 18, I'm not sure, but everyone else is of age too to be an adventurer. I believe the rule/law is that you must be 15 or older to become an adventurer.
Their little guild/group together is called the "Dragon Busters" or something like that and as their name suggests, they named themselves after killing dragons I suppose. Their first task from the king was requested in this episode and the group sets out to some sort of dungeon. This dungeon was reported to have many people come in, but no one comes out. This means that the king and his council or whatever believe that the reason why no one leaves the dungeon is because of a dragon.
With terrible and CGI, we see Well's group go through various floors after being teleported to the bottom, due to a trap that a sorcerer had placed within the dungeon. To escape, they had to climb this tower. Long story short, they were able to and they were able to defeat the dragon.
Very boring as I mentioned and the animation + CGI was awful, but it's nice seeing them older now.
After clearing the dungeon, they make it to the sorcerer's library where they have access to new knowledge through the books he left. Supposedly, the sorcerer created the dungeon to test people. The test was to see who can make it to the library to inherit it.
Additionally, they were able to find the magic ships used in ancient times and the source of the current flying ships used.
I am not a fan of Well's concubine. I think Elise is a perfect wife for him and I think that it's very silly that Ena and Louise are his wives too because it's very clear Well puts more attention on Elise and vise versa. I remember why they wanted to come up with "operation concubine" but as I mentioned it's just stupid and adds nothing.
I haven't done an episode discussion post in a while. I've been pretty bored when it comes to writing them, and I rather focus on watching the episode, instead of trying to analyze every single thing. Well, I do that regardless of writing my discussion posts since it's a habit I've picked up, so I might as well continue posting.
We are nearly done with a good amount of anime this season. Thanks to COVID-19 (sarcasm) some anime will not continue releasing episodes until a further date. The anime that have continued going through this epidemic is nearly done!
Two episodes left with this anime! I just want to discuss the ending of episode 10. It looks like the people from the hometown where Well was born, they would rather have him lead than Kurt. I'm assuming he will take over the land. At the beginning of the series, we see Well as a 30-year old man. We were introduced to his party unaware of who anyone was. Now, we know everyone at the party that we saw at the beginning of the anime.
The last person we have yet to see is Well's butler or assistant that I am guessing will take over the land while Well is out adventuring.
Let's see what happens in the next episode, because I know it's going to be filled with drama since Kurt, Well's older brother dislikes him completely.
Another Thursday and we finally reach the last episode for "Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou!" If you take a look at the final reviews for this anime, you'll notice that it has way more negative reviews than positive. Let's dive into that with my own opinion.
I am going to agree with most of the people int he MAL final episode discussion thread. However, I don't think as strongly as they do. Meaning, a lot of people said this was terrible and the worst isekai they have ever seen. While it wasn't a great isekai, it wasn't that awful.
The story was generic, the characters were generic, it's an isekai, everything is generic. If you were looking for something unique, you won't find it here. The only thing I thought was unique was the transportation system. There was a "flying car ship" thing, something you'd see out of Star Wars. Their version of an airplane. The only unique thing I can think of in this anime.
The story was all over the place. There was no set plot and every episode something new happened. The characters as mentioned before were very generic and had no unique personalities to them. Well, the main character, was OP right off the start and of course, this gave him the ultimate plot armor.
The animation in terms of the artwork was not terrible. It was average actually. The CGI was awful, especially with the dragons, however, the show is watchable. There were no funny drawn faces or weird movements other than the CGI used.
The isekai portion was non-existent. We only see it once at the beginning when the main character "dies" and is reborn as Well. After the first episode, he doesn't remember anything about his past life other than food. Things like miso soup, tofu, and the likes randomly come to his mind. There was no "oh my gosh, I remembered something delicious from my old life!" Well just instinctively knew that he could change how the food tasted with stuff from modern-day life.
Would I recommend this anime to someone? No. I think a majority of people would find this too boring. I am going to give this anime a final rating of six which is "Fine". The anime wasn't terrible. I didn't get bored or tired of watching it. It did lack the key components such as a plot and unique characters, but it was watchable. I know people have stronger tastes than me, meaning people critique things more harshly, which is why I wouldn't recommend it.
