before i begin i would like to make a quick note that i am not saying we should all be completely rational and logical at all times and be without emotion, but it would be beneficial at times.
so when it comes to this current crisis, many countries around the world have voluntarily tanked their entire economy, and for what? the people most at risk and dying in the majority are either the elderly, the sick, or a combination of the two. the value society has put on each of these lives is utterly insane. especially when you consider that many of these people have a very limited amount of time left anyway, meaning their "life value" is even lower than the standard. now economists can argue what the appropriate monetary value of a life may be at this point in time, but it is crystal clear we have blown the valuation way out of the water and over the moon already.
and again, no, i am not saying lives don't matter or we shouldn't as a species try in some ways to protect it, but we must realise and calculate if it is really worth the price we are paying. and currently, i would say this price is not only not worth paying, but i believe the lasting damage caused by these actions will hurt many, many more than the current health crisis will.
please keep in mind this is just my personal opinion and you may ofc readily disagree with me. either way, feel free to leave your thoughts on the matter below.
I'm Stanley HF's helper bot. This OP (original poster) of this thread wants everyone to see this page and has elected to bump it to the top of the showthread listing. Since HF doesn't want a ton of LQP (Low Quality Posts) this is the best method of bumping your content. There is a small βyte fee for each bump. Any OP can bump any of their threads on HF from the linked icon on the top of their first post.
If you haven't already read the first post of this thread we encourage you to do so.
Thanks,
Stanley

I understand your view, but keep in mind that also healthy younger people with no prior health problems are dying now too.
The precentage of those is certainly lower, but if we wouldn't have the precautions in place those numbers would be far higher

the point here is that young healthy people are dying at a what, sub 1% statistic which is really low, might even be under .5% in western countries.
people die every day, over 150k a day i believe the stat is, which is just a part of life.
Kinda messed up to say but at least it's affecting the whole world. If it were just one country like U.S. then that would surely change the power dynamics of countries and at the point USA would be conquered by China or a number of similar situations.
OP does have a point though, the cure shouldn't be worse than the problem.

how many whistleblower doctors have they killed off so far lmao
hmm, no more thoughts on this? it is quite an important discussion i would say
The problem is, it could cripple the entire population and millions would die. A 1% mortality rate for 8 billion people is 80 million. That is fucked.

it is still worth it to save the world economy, in my mind anyway.

The deaths of 80 million people we have far more economic implications than simply doing what everyone is doing. Also, would you include yourself within the 80 million if it meant saving the economy? 80 million is 1/4 of the US population.

i am in the least risk group, but if i was unlucky enough to die, well then so be it. such is life. the majority of the people that die have little time left anyhow and are not usually able workers in any capacity either. at this time we are valuing every human life at a rediculous price tag

I agree to an extent, to each his own haha. I'm confident I wouldn't die either.

this is not ot say it is not sad, or that i have no sympathy for those that suffer. what i am saying it is simply not worth the cost, not to mention the lives that will be lost due to the economic disaster we have walked into. suicides to mention one

I am afraid this is correct. We cannot hold the world in limbo until it's completely gone or the world we return to will be very different and a lot harsher place to live!
