Hello, I don't see a discussion thread on this anime, so I thought I'd create one.
Quote:In the beautiful land of Astraea where a gentle breeze blows, a young man named Yuuki awakens with no memory of his past. There he encounters a guide who has sworn to care for him—Kokkoro, a lovely swordswoman who's always feeling peckish—Pecorine, and a cat-eared sorceress with a prickly attitude—Karyl. Led by fate, these four come together to form the "Gourmet Guild."

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.
As for me, I shall use spoiler codes for the first three episodes. After that, I will not use the spoiler code anymore.
A very weird and interesting first episode. At first, I wasn't sure what I thought about this anime. It's for sure going to be a strange one. Also, we have another anime based on a video game. Dang, that adds four now to the list I think.
This anime feels like a Konosuba rip off, however, what makes it different is that the main character Yuuki is an absolute moron. We don't know how yet, but Yuuki loses his memory and is revived or something by Ames. Ames is voiced by Rie Takahashi, my beloved favorite female seiyuu so I hope to see more of her in this anime! The characters are very strong. Pecorine is a swordswoman and I'm assuming Kokkoro is some sort of mage or fairy. Another twist is that Pecorine is a moron too. it seems Kokkoro is the only one who doesn't have the mind of a child. At times, this can get annoying and it made me dislike the show at first.
The characters are interesting. I already gave you a little information on them and out of all the adventure fantasy anime airing this season, these characters are useful for once. Despite being a generic adventure genre, I can see this anime doing somewhat well. In the ending preview we see a whole bunch of other people, mostly female, and by taking a look at the character list, it looks like Yuuki is going to be the only male out of well-known characters for a little bit. We did see men in the first episode, but it looks like females will mostly be part of the character list.
There is no set story so I'm not sure what's going to happen next, but at least we are getting an adventure. There are some comedic aspects to this anime but that is a hit or miss. I laughed at a few things but overall I think the jokes they tried to make were a little too stupid for my taste.
The art style is average. It's good but nothing special. We also get the "level one starter area" like most isekai or adventure anime have. The houses and buildings aren't unique but they are different from other anime airing this season. I will also add the colors and the way the characters look are nice.
For now, I am going to categorize it as a Konosuba clone and see what happens next.
Megane, thank you for keeping this section alive.

I'm trying my best, but it seems no one cares. I do appreciate the support. 🙂✌
Episode two!
This anime has gotten better with the second episode. I enjoyed it a lot more and I think it will start to get better. Last episode we were faced with two idiots as MC's and a cute loli elf trying her best to tame one of the idiots.
For some, Peco and Yuuki have disliked characters because of how stupid they are. I can agree with that. However, with the most recent episode, it adds some good comedy. Pecorine makes a great character and despite being as dumb as a block of wood, she is super powerful and the way she fights is really impressive.
To compare this anime with the other adventure ones airing this season such as Shachou, battle no Jikan desu!", "Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou!" and "Shironeko Project: ZERO CHRONICLE" this has been the most enjoyable so far, despite there only being two episodes. I can already see this anime doing far better than those three.
If you are looking for that comedic adventure anime where you can sit back and relax this is it. After taking a look at the discussions, it turns out the director for this anime directed Konosuba. You'll be getting some Konosuba references in this anime too and even some of the voice actors from Konosuba are in this anime.
We are met with a new character. The tsundere cat Karyl who seems to be a high mage or something of the like. She has great magic abilities and it seems she might even be stronger than kokkoro when it comes to magic.
The only complaint I have is that Yuuki had no character development this episode. With this anime supposedly being based around him, I am not sure why the girls were focused more than him. But I won't complain as all three of them are cute.
The foursome find themselves starting a guild! The guild revolves around finding the best food. I think that is a unique one, considering we haven't seen anything like this maybe at all. I'm going to assume we'll continue getting awesome action fights and comedic moments while getting ingredients to cook food as well as traveling to the best restaurants.
The animation and sound production is well done. I was impressed with how well everything looked and how smooth the fighting scene between the dragon was.
I am looking forward to the next episode and I hope they continue down this path.
Episode three.
A few complaints this episode, but nothing crazy like I usually do. I don't like Karyl too much only because of her annoying tsundere attitude. The way she's constantly doing it is very annoying. If she did the attitude every so often I'd be fine with it, but constantly hearing her moan and whine but then secretly opening up is annoying.
We understand that from the last episode, food is the main subject in this anime. I find that very unique as there aren't too many fantasy adventure anime revolved around food. I guess you can say this is the Food Wars of that genre. Not really, but close enough.
Pecorine got a part-time job for what, a day? Now she's off to be an adventurer. Interesting.
The group finally form a guild called the Gourmet Guild. Their goal is to travel across the land and eat food together. It sounds like an awesome guild to me. Considering this anime is going to be revolved around food, I'm sure we'll get some bits and pieces of critiquing. Maybe an Interspecies Reviewers, but no porn, and food? Maybe with some action sprinkled in since we know Pecorine can fight.
I still think the main character is useless. How is he even the main character? He adds nothing but a bowl of stupid to this anime. At least Peco is dumb, but she is useful in the end. Are they even going to try and get his memories back as we saw in episode one?
Lastly, what was that scene with the girl falling over? It seemed she was either tired or poisoned. The idiot decides to give her food and asks if she's hungry. Maybe she was, but she seemed like an adventurer that could afford her meals. Then, she has this weird face like she's interested in him. Very weird that even was put in this episode.
I've said it previously, but this show resembles Konosuba so much. Too bad, it's not as good, but it's still fairly funny. Looking at it now, the artwork screams it and even some of the voice actors that have returned form KonoSuba are in this. This is because the director of KonoSuba did this anime too.
The Gourmet Guild gets their own guild house and to their dismay, it is filled with bugs, dust, dirt, and it's run-down. Their goal this episode is to clean it up and fix it to their liking to represent who they are and what their goals are.
While going shopping Kokoro introduces us to two new characters that are very cute, Saren who runs an orphanage and her assistant Suzume. Suzume is a clown and I hope to see more of her.
We get a special guest appearance from a weird, yet interesting character who is voiced by the famous Japanese VA, Sora Tokui. She always has a distinguishable voice and you can instantly tell it's her. She also has a trademark of pronouncing things in a certain way that just screams what she's known for. It was a nice touch for this episode.
Lastly, while being passed out, Yuuki met with Ames again in what I guess you could say is a dream and she explained that each of the people in his group has their problems and missions they need to accomplish. It seems Ames won't share all of the information to Yuuki because it's up to him to find out on his own. It also looks like Karyl has the biggest problem out of everyone and we might get some backstory about all of this in a future episode. Ames mentioned an enemy is watching, so I'm wondering if in the future something will happen that will possibly hurt the guild and destroy their relationship, or make them even closer and work together.
We get to meet the girl we saw two (I think) episodes ago that Yuuki gave some food to. Her name is Eriko and it seems she's a yandere type who loves Yuuki! I won't deny it, she was pretty cute and the producers had no chill when it came to creating her and showing off her body.
We also meet Mitsuki, a crazy doctor who runs a hospital like a prison and Nanaka her nurse/assistant who is also crazy.
The episode wasn't anything special. I didn't get any laughs out of it but some of you might!
I'm not the biggest fan of this anime, however, episode 11 was fantastic. The video production, sound production, and voice acting were amazing. Everything was fluid within this episode and I was honestly amazed.
In this episode, we learn that Yuuki has two sisters, Shizuru and Rino. Apparently, they were part of his old guild before he lost his memories. I don't remember the flashback but I am sure we saw them at one point.
We are also introduced to one of the leaders, Labyrista in this episode. I'm guessing she gave Shizuru and Rino a mission to look after Yuuki. I'm surprised it took this long to introduce us to the guild. The guild's name is Seven Crowns.
I keep forgetting that this anime has 13 episodes and not 12, meaning we have two more episodes left! So much could happen.
We see the "shadows" again, this time terrorizing the town in which the Gourmet Guild has its base. We know the shadows are produced by Karyl's master. It's very clear that Karyl has loyalty to her, but she also has loyalty tot he Gourmet Guild. I'm very curious to see if her role as a "spy" will be revealed later on in the next two episodes. Because if it does, either she'll help the Gourmet Guild stop her master, or try and destroy the Gourmet Guild.
I believe it's the former, but at the same time, this anime could end without an altercation at all. I also believe this anime has the potential of having a sequel or some sort of OVA.
The comedic aspect of this anime was really funny at times. It's what you would expect from the director of Kono Suba. I think he did a good job with this episode! It had a Kono Suba vibe for sure.
If you haven't seen Konosuba, then don't read my final review for this anime. If you are curious as to why I even brought up Konosuba, the directors of that anime directed this one.
Princess Connect would be classified as an adventure anime filled with comedy. However, your view of comedy will determine whether or not you like this anime. It was a mix of funny and unfunny for me. If you are looking to get a story out of the anime, don't bother. Similar to Konosuba, each episode is filled with something new. However, there may be another episode for a continuation of something from the previous episode, but that's it.
The main purpose of the anime was the adventurers Yuuki, a person who ends up losing his memory somehow, Kokkoro an elf mage sent by the Goddess Ames to look after Yuuki, Pecorine who we later learn in the last episode was the princess of Landosol, the land they are in, and Karyl a neko-girl who is secretly working for some sort of dark queen.
We learn at the beginning that Yuuki loses his mind and I guess meeting Kokkoro was supposed to help him slowly regain his memory. I'll say that Yuuki, despite being the first character we meet, and supposedly the main protagonist isn't even the main protagonist! If anything Pecorine is more of the main protagonist if you'd even say there was one.
At first, it's only Yuuki and Kokkoro and eventually, they meet Pecorine and eventually after that Karyl. They form the "Guild Gourmet" guild which is a guild focused on discovering delicious food. As someone who likes to cook and loves food in general this appealed to me. However, the food they discovered was not anything special. Basic sandwiches, "magic mushrooms" and other things we'd normally eat but with special ingredients to make them, such as a bug or something stupid like that. There was even an episode on making the best pudding.
While that isn't what I really wanted, I guess I can't complain since it's food. Whenever there wasn't any cooking exploration, the four would travel the lands questing and helping people out. I'd say there was more questing than food exploration so if you're looking more for the adventure side of things, this anime will have that.
The characters were bland and basic. Pecorine had big boobs, if you're into that, enjoy. Eriko is your typical yandere type so if you like that, you'll see her three times. Yuuki and Pecorine had the best abilities, however, because Yuuki lost his memory he doesn't know how to use the strong ones. Most of the time he just gets eaten or killed by whatever they are fighting and reborn again later, sort of like "team rocket blasting off again" vibes if you know what I mean.
I'm iffy about recommending this anime. I've decided to give it a final rating of a five which is "average." It really depends on the comedy you like. There are some Konosuba voice actors in this anime you might recognize. If you are into dumb comedy (not saying comedy is dumb - ah, you get the point hopefully) then this is the anime for you.
Might watch this one of these days, just because it's made by Cygames, just kinda wish they'd make stories similar to Rage of Bahamut or Granblue Fantasy.
That is some detailed review and efforts.
Thanks for doing this Megane.
