Here is my theory about Imu Sama and Joy Boy:

First I think Imu Sama is a cursed swordsman like Mihawk and Cavendish due to his eyes.  All 3 control some sort of demon; I think the demons Imu controls are the ones in the Florian Triangle. Not only do they look alike, Imu's name backwards (umi) means "sea/ocean" so I think there's some sort of correlation there. Next I think Imu Sama and Joy Boy had a different opinion about devil fruits, power, and ideology in general about how people should live; under one government or free.  Joy Boy disappearing from the world probably had to do with their differing opinions on weather they should kill the devil fruit tree or not. Lastly I think everything ties into the "butterfly effect" theme where changing something in the past can drastically alter the future.  I believe the story that's trying to be told is that the butterfly effect isn't real and you can never truly alter the future that was always meant to be.

Also in regards to the hat in the freezer, that was the last thing Im was able to grab (just like Indiana Jones) before either he or Joy Boy moved through time. What's written on the poneglyph (at least one of them) is the prophecy of Joy Boy returning probably to kick Im's ass and destroy the devil fruit tree which is why he's paranoid of anyone who wears a straw hat.  I also wouldn't be surprised if the poneglyph detailing the prophecy of Joy Boy resides on Laugh Tale is why it's named as such.   This would also explain why Roger wasn't able to do anything because he was too early in the timeline and knew it wasn't his generation that would be around during the time of the prophecy and chose to social engineer the next generation by dying in a grandiose fashion to ensure they would be inspired to accomplish the task.  What's this task you might ask? It probably has something to do with getting the ancient weapons, raising the Noah and entering into the Florian Triangle to destroy whatever is making devil fruits so that everyone in the world is equal again reversing the damage Imu Sama forced on everyone for his own selfish reasons.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Who do you guys think Imu Sama is? What powers does he/she have? And what do you guys think is the overall story of One Piece?
