Imagine that we are facing a complete annihilation of humanity, how do we react?

(This post may contain factual errors due to ignorance in the field and I wish you to ignore them and focus on the main question)

Imagine if we had images for space and aviation (NASA, etc.) Discovering an object on the way to Earth sufficiently stored to wipe out all human life on our planet (like the movie Armageddon).
The object is predicted to hit the earth 5 years after the discovery and is only visible with high-tech telescopes so far.
When it is clear 3-4 years, it begins to become visible to less sophisticated telescopes, and less than a half year in the lower sync to the human eye in the form of a slightly larger star that gets bigger every week.

How would authorities react in a situation like this? Blackout deluxe?
After 4.5 years when it starts to become visible with the naked eye at night, what do you think?

One month before the impact, it becomes visible during the daytime. Now it starts to become really serious, the night is no longer dark anymore because the big object is lighting the sky and its visible for everyone.

How would people react in this situation when the government doesn't have the strength to make this a big blackout?

Panic is a fact, but beyond that, how does man react to its totalitarian extinction?
i would imagine many a man would start praying to their imaginary deity for salvation.. good luck with that one though

This is too easy. Just buy all the toilet paper. Duh
Are you using this as a theoretical scenario, or is this something that could potentiall happen? Haha, i'm interested to where this discussion goes.

You can close the thread now. This is the correct and only answer. There is no other way. I just wish you hadn't publically announced my master plan though...

theoretical scenario..

If this would happen all countries in the world would work together to prevent it from touching us, such as nuclear bomb use etc..
You would see the destabilization of civilization.

Not even truly able to describe the atrocities that would be committed around the world.

Which is why for the majority of that time, it would be top level secret.

Ah, I had haeard something kinda familiar to this a while back, which is why I asked. I think all the countries in the world would have to work together, or life as we know it ends.

The thought and/or scenario of impending doom brought on by a celestial object hitting Earth, and usually what I feel is this relatively "down" feeling, almost if I had been told a lie my whole life in the respect of that I was told I would grow up, be an adult, get old and have the benefit of f$%king with others with my false dementia. That's basically it as a whole. I mean, no doubt I would just have to swallow the sad reality that my death will be sooner and the beautiful world I see will no longer be. It's a sad thought, but in my own way of self-preparedness I've already mostly accepted that fate just for good measure. Builds character, I guess?

This is the reason why there's nothing left for us.
I wasn't thinking about this until I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVu4C9sqnyk

I imagine last month would be depressing as fuck knowing there is nothing you can do to stop it. I recommend you to watch that mini-movie, it's kinda frightening. The part that really touched me was TV hosts getting drunk live on television saying "Fuck, we're all gonna die".

I imagine the same situation on the last day of our lifes.

I think you're spot-on with that. There would no doubt be an increase of general apathy or carelessness from a sizeable chunk of those who do live broadcasting, if they even decide to show up for work, that is.

Lmafo why would they show up for work? They got families as well.

I don't know. Personally, if I were in the broadcasting business and the world was coming to an end, I wouldn't mind sacrificing a smidgen of time to do something wild and unique to be shown live worldwide. Most certainly not getting drunk, but indeed something special.
Hell, bring the family with so you're not too far away from each other, just keep them in another room where they can't see your shenanigans.
