GriefPrevention: Minecraft Plugin Overview

Most Minecraft players just want to enjoy the game and interact with others. Unfortunately, there exists a subset of players with more malicious intent: Griefing!
These players, also known as “griefers” have only one goal in mind, and that’s to destroy any Minecraft server they join. This is done by finding mistakes in the setup and exploiting them, this can range from permissions not being assigned properly to bugs in plugins the server is using. Software can also be used to cheat and grief in Minecraft.
You may now be wondering how to stop griefers. A common method is to use a plugin to restore actions taken by certain players, such as block breaks and explosions. This is usually effective but can be time-consuming and disrupts playtime on your server, possibly resulting in players leaving.
We’ve found the absolute best way to prevent griefing on your server! Introducing: GriefPrevention!

What is GriefPrevention?
GriefPrevention is a plugin for Spigot servers designed to stop grief before it even happens. No more restoring your server from backups! GriefPrevention allows admins to protect certain areas in the Minecraft world, typically the spawn area, so nobody else can modify or destroy it. It will protect the selected area from many actions including:

• Building and breaking
• Chest access
• Lava and water placement
• (Sticky) Piston usage
• TNT damage
• Mob damage (such as from Creepers and Enderman)
• Crop trampling
• Portal placement

and much, much more! Your protected area will essentially be immune to modifications by anyone that is not you or a player you “trust”. More on that below.

GriefPrevention is not only for server admins, however. Regular players can make use of this on your server, too! The very first chest a player places on the ground creates a protected area for them so they can build a small house and keep their items safe from griefers and cheaters.
Players can also use a region selection tool (Gold Shovel by default) to select an area they would like to protect. This allows for multiple, larger protected areas. This can all be configured by the server admin to their liking.

Tips & Useful Commands
GriefPrevention has so many features and commands but still remains very player-friendly. Here are some tips and useful commands!

• /trust [playername]
Players can use this command to “trust” a player, allowing them to build and destroy in their protected area. If you don’t fully trust a player, you can use /accesstrust instead to allow access to chests, anvils and other storage blocks but deny building and destroying. /untrust revokes a players access to your build.
• /trapped
Sometimes a player can get stuck in another players protected area. Instead of waiting for an admin to come online, use this command and you’ll be teleported out and can continue playing!

• /abandonclaim
If you no longer want an area to be protected, use this command to abandon the claim and get your claim blocks back

• /buyclaimblocks and /sellclaimblocks
Some servers will allow you to buy more claim blocks so you can protected a bigger area, use the /buyclaimblocks command in this case. If you don’t intend to protect any areas, use /sellclaimblocks and use the money for something else!
Note: Most servers using GriefPrevention let you earn a certain amount of claim blocks every hour.

• Spam Prevention
GriefPrevention also protects your server from chat spam. It can monitor for certain words and commands and warn players who are violating your rules. Continued violations can result in a ban.
