Hello,
I built my current machine a few years ago (getting pretty old now) and only recently I have noticed some strange CPU temp behavior (i7 7700K).
CPU hasn't been delidded, nor any lapping on IHS or cooler yet as I haven't needed to (will be delidding next week once my LM comes) as I'll be OC'ing it soon once my water loop parts come. I know kaby lakes can run pretty hotter than other generations but it's been stable since purchase.
Cooler is just a Hyper 212 EVO so running most thing stock (besides XMP).
My CPU idles at around 40c across all cores except 1 core (which is at random) that will be around 15-20c hotter than the others. Obviously one core hotter is normal due to single threaded apps but 15-20c difference consistently doesn't seem normal. Replacing the TIM (using mx4) has no effect. If it was just the same core, I'd put it down to either the TIM on the die or the IHS but it jumps across all cores.
I've used HWMonitor/RealTemp and a few other tools to see if it was a faulty reading but same result. Below is an example on core 3, but it jumps from core to core consistently.

Anybody experienced this before? What could it be?
