So I have came up with a concept idea that I have pitched to an investor who is willing to invest into my idea but I have never really done anything like this before.

Would china be my best bet? For Product and packaging? If I patent the item also.

I am looking where do I start from here as in going about having a prototype made for a product? I would just like an idea on where to look before I start my market research around my city and stuff.

China would be your last bet. Your idea would be instantly worthless to you. They would steal it.

Suggest you seek an Intellectual Property Lawyer that specializes in IP law.

Small investment starting off if it goes well, I'm going to have it made myself and use my own money first to see how it goes, if I see potential to scale when I've put more research in I will then go further.

First of all is making a prototype of said thing, just to show it works and is doable. As Omni said, speak to an IP Lawyer.

Then, hire a Chinese translator/someone who's in the know, because you'll need to talk to factories over there (depending on what the said product is), and they won't speak English for you. This is also the most expensive part because you'll need test batches to see they can do what they say they can, see the number of faults, but this means making 500+ of the same product, ie expensive. After that its just making up a contract with all parties.

There's a very long road ahead.

Also, depending on product look at other countries in Asia as a manufacturer, China is normally your best bet but others exist too and might be better.
