Recovering Hard Drive Data

I am helping my parents move and I'm responsible for scanning/ripping old dvds/harddrives/etc. One of the problems I am coming accros is most of these old external hard drives do not want to load on my PC. I'm thinking the heat of the attic is responsible for destroying these things but I believe there is a small chance some data can be recovered. I don't trust a single hard drive recovery tool but if any of you could recommend something you've used in the past, I would appreciate it(I don't mind paying for something legit).

Other then that, I've been trying to recover data myself. This Hard drive in particular is being a pain. I'll take you through the steps...

1) Plugging the drive in and going to devices to make sure it recognizes it, crashes my computer. Time to restart.... RIP

2) Going to CMD and typing
Code
chkdsk /f E:
gets this output
Code
The type of the file system is RAW.
CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.

3) Going to Disk Management and the damn thing won't load. Just getting a message on the bottom saying "Loading disk configuration information"

I'm thinking this may be a lost cause but I'd love to recover some old photos/videos.. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Thank you!

If you need that data so badly i highly recommend going for a specialized recovery service, most of them don't even take a single cent unless they successfully recover your data
Use testdisk and qphotorec !
EasyUS Data Recovery and iCare Data recovery works fine with me :)

I ended up going with this. Worked very well and I got all my data back.

Thank you :)
glad you got it worked out and got ur data back.

you can also try a bootable iso from WinPE 10-8 Sergei Strelec (x86/x64) from majorgeeks or a torrent source. it has all the tools for that and you just boot it from a USB. so f8 when pc is starting. usb. you boot into a win10 PE recovery environment and then it has everything there.

My issue was on external hard drives. I'm not sure if that method works as well as a UI on the desktop.

my bad. yeah personally i would just find the best or your fav paid software that does data recovery. like wondershare or easeus. find a repack of it on lrepacks and then you can do it easily. with all the features.
