Map your network, there are several free tools to do a surface layer scan like you'll want. ping and play around with the addresses you find there, figure out who's who, and whats what, and don't listen to anyone who tells your right off to mess with your router settings or gives you specifics. Look that up so you don't end up locking up your own network, making things bug out, or worse giving some unknown person the keys to the castle, that's what your trying to get not give.
If you want passwords or other such items might I suggest, for your own pen testing needs of course, something like a cookiecadger(this is still a thing right or did it get outdated?) or confirmed more presently wireshark? if its a home network and your just starting out that seems like a good way to get your feet wet. Home network for pen testing mind you... don't try anything like this at a hotel or casino without more experience and a portable router or two... once more pen testing.
