I am just wondering how many people on HF went to Uni. Why didn't/did you go to Uni? Tell me your perspective on it.

How many people on HF went to Uni? |
|
Ive finished my postgrad already. My reasons for going through with it were to increase my qualifications and ensure that I will have better job opportunities in the years to come.
I'm still going.
I don't really have much of an opinion, it's an optional choice. I wanted to go because I had the passion and ambition to pursue this particular skillset that I'm studying. Getting bachelors is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I'll carry with me my entire life, and there just so happens to exist a program that I very strongly wanted to study.
No. I started, then left.
"I'm not dismissing the value of higher education, I'm just saying it comes with the expense of experience. The system can only produce the system. Now I don't want to be a part of that and neither should you." - quote from Jobs (2013) I was always a strong academic growing up. Usually 99th percentile rating for the yearly standardized testing, for all subjects. However, somewhere along the way I became disillusioned with the system. I abhor the concept of a one-size-fits-all piece of paper (diploma) that could either display financial well-being or academic focus. You don't know which it is. A system that for many includes bribery, homework services, grading curves, or sexual exploitation. With the modern Internet any person can learn most skills. I admit, higher education has it's time and place... but let's stop telling the world that it's the requirement of life. It's the easy road to success. The prescribed route by society. The "put one foot in front of the other, stay on the line, and don't deviate" path. I stepped off the path. ![]()

It cost a lot of money and if you ever do want to go. You can always work and safe up money and then go. It's not a big deal but Id rather save up and start a business then wast money on a piece of paper that you may or may not get a job in. It's like the biggest scam they promise once you graduate you get a job but not just a job but a job that is less hours and more money. It's overall better and you make more money. I have friends that went to uni and had good grades. They graduated and currently today can't get a job because they lack experience. So, they're either living at home with parents or they finally got a job that you can get right out of highschool. which means the money spent and time wasted they could never get back. They could've gotten the job right out of highschool and saved up some serious money. I didn't go and it's was a choice. I rather save money up and make a lot of money then to either make it or make my parent's pay a university that won't give a fuck about you and will gouge you for every penny you have and could care less if you get a job of not. Uni is expensive and it comes with a cost. I personally never see the cost as a benefit. It's debt that you get in exchange for maybe getting a good job. I agree with Xerotic but if your taking advice from this thread, go to college. Until your confident enough to think for yourself that is.
The thing with this mentality is that a lot of people fail to continue with learning itself. It's almost like a soon to be sexy mindset not going to college by people like Gary Vee saying "College is not a good ROI" which in parts I agree with and while myself I chose not to go to college.. it's the vast majority of people that are fucking retarded. Your going to skip college and watch YouTube all day well wait sorry probably Tik Tok all day and play video games or smoke weed all night until a few years down the road you wonder why your not successful. There's a reason the quote "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. George Carlin" is so popular. Statistically unfortunately we all can't be the top of our class in IQ here on HF, that means yes.. someone here is and probably actually a lot of people here (considering we're here in The Lounge scrolling throughout the day or maybe me and got clickbaited off of view new posts) are smarter than you. So listen to good ol Parks and go to college. Although personally I think college is only worth while if your pursuing medicine or law a good majority of you should go anyways due to us not all able to be zuckerbergs. Don't be brainwashed and don't go to college because a few self help guru's told you otherwise.. you don't know enough in this world especially if the advice your applying is coming from gurus. Acourse there are other factors in play as well like actually making sure you know what your going there for and not just going there to be there. Basically all I'm trying to say before spending too much time on this thread is, your answer to if you should go to college should be yes. In my opinion you should only not go to college if your confident enough to know why you shouldn't and what your going to be doing instead. You'll get a lot more value going through it instead of sitting at home doing nothing. Although if we're talking what's most beneficial to make you money that's a whole another story. Two quotes I do like though. "The best teachers are on the Internet. The best books are on the Internet. The best peers are on the Internet" "The tools for learning are abundant. It’s the desire to learn that’s scarce." Naval Ravikant You can see my opinion on reading one of the most important habits you can have too here ![]()
I got a good degree in Computing but the honest truth I wish I got a trade.
It's just a pretty title I know so many graduates working minimum wage where as those who learnt a trade, plumbing, electrician etc are the ones making big bucks. Degrees today are so watered down and something stupid like 50% of people now go to Uni. |
