Hey everyone, as the title suggests, i'm trying to troubleshoot a friend's laptop which have issues connecting to wifi either using its internal or a specific wireless adapter (keep in mind that that adapter works on any other computer, it doesn't have any kind of brand, it's just a tiny standard one), i also intend to test the internal adapter in another system, the only way to connect that laptop to the internet that actually worked for me is using another external wireless adapter of mine (a TP-Link tl-wn722n), i didn't try ethernet yet, the laptop is under windows 8.1 32 bit (the cpu is 64 bit however, turns out the original owner isn't that bright !), i tried reinstalling drivers, and it didn't work, i tried booting with two linux live operating systems (wifislax and kali), and those specific two adapters didn't work just like in windows as well, i also tried booting to windows with safe mode, the same problem occurs, i figured that the issue can't be in windows, but i still have doubts, i'm planning to do a memory test later, do you think that ram can be causing this problem ? i can't do a bios update since there are none for the current os as stated by the official website, there are only versions compatible with the 64 bit versions of windows, i didn't try reinstalling windows, i intend to try but it's a little difficult considering that i don't have space to backup important files, one more thing, i don't know about the internal one, but the external wireless adapter (the unbranded one) was working fine on that laptop before, i still don't know what caused it to malfunction, did any of you experience that kind of problem ? i know i didn't ! i'll post the laptop's model a little while from now, please let me know your thoughts on this, and i really appreciate the help
P.S : the laptop is an HP Pavilion 15 with an i5 3230M @2.60 GHz and 4 GB of ram, i did a memory scan using the built in bios tool and memtest86 and it passed just fine, i also tried the internal NIC on two other systems and it worked just fine, so both of the adapters the internal and the external work perfectly on other systems
