Hurricane Laura upgraded to 'extremely dangerous' Category 4 - Louisiana/Texas border

Just a heads up to anyone who wants to get hold of family out there before it hits. Make sure you do so now, ensure they are safe and get your words in before possible destruction and no communication.

Hurricane Katrina was 174 mph winds - Laura is 140 mph. There are other factors involved but it could hit a category 5 like Katrina.
Hurricane Laura was 7 mph short of a Category 5 storm as of 9 pm local time
– For Context, Hurricane Katrina was a Category 3 storm when it made landfall in 2005
– Tornado watches were issued in parts of the states until 8 am Thursday morning
– More than 500,000 residents in Louisiana and Texas were ordered to evacuate

Stay safe everybody! This one is gonna cause some real damage.
Wow, it's been upgraded to a Category 4 Hurricane already? Christ on a bike, this year is just chaotic and seemingly neverending. I just hope we don't have the same situation as was with Hurricane Katrina back in 2005 and people take the situation very seriously.
laura will be much faster then 140mph

will be hitting land at min 170mph
Jesus. This is going to be a serious storm if it's still a CAT4 when it makes landfall. Thankfully not nearly as powerful as some of the others we've gotten in the last 10 years.
Man that is going to be devastating. If you live in the area I would at least get a cheap hotel for the night a little further north. Things can be replaced, I've been through a lot of hurricanes, and trust me I wouldn't stick around for it at all.
Every fucking year people choose to leave the area at the last minute, you're either going to ride the storm out or die in it.

Living in Houston, hoping for the best and all others who will be affected.

What the fuck is going on in 2020, I was just reading about this a few minutes ago. That's some scary shit I'm hoping they get everyone somewhere safe in time, and really can only hope it doesn't cause too much damage. Yet another devastating event in 2020, how great.
