How can I get money back from old roommate?

Had an old roommate that was renting out a room from me. Long story short, he owes me $4k.

He still thinks we're friends, though he no longer lives with me. How can I get my money back?

ask him in his face not on the phone ...

and if he doesn't want to break her legs and give her 2 weeks to find the money
What does he owe you $4,000 for? Rent, bills, utilities, etc.? Do you have any proof he agreed to pay whatever this debt consists of?

$4,000 will be a lot to squeeze out of a "friend" who was a former roommate. You'll be lucky to get any of it back without putting some pressure on them.

He was in between jobs. I'm thinking he for sure will pay me a bit back. He's bad as fuck at handling money, so I was trying to think of a way to get him to send me $500, but have it on a "subscription" or some type so he'll basically forget about it running until it's paid back.

Other than Paypal, I'm not sure what other solutions I could do that with.

I'm not going to lie bro, that would be pretty sleazy and borderline illegal. And unless he's stupid, he'll for sure notice $500 coming out of his bank account every 30 days lol.
I have many tricks for you but they are all illegal lol

Not gonna lie, good luck to recover your funds without using violence or legal way...

I mean, subscription model services bank on that happening. To where you just "forget". Look at gym memberships. You can't even cancel the subscription over the phone.

But yeah, it is a bit. What else am I to do when trying to get money from someone sleazy?

You're not really providing a lot of info, man.

Is he avoiding you? Has he agreed to pay any of this in text? Is there a paper trail of this $4,000 he owes you?

I'm thinking you could take him to court and sue him, if you want to go that far. That's why I'm asking these questions. If none of the above are applicable, you are probably fucked because he has no legal obligation to pay you. If that's the case, you need to do some self reflection and think about this. $4,000 is a lot of money to be fucked over for, what led to this moment? Avoid people like him from now on. And don't loan anything you will miss.

Hope it gets better but I'm here to talk.

Is your name Alan?
I have a friend I work with who's experiencing something very similar, almost to a T.
Except his friend owe's 5k.
Either confront him about it or cut all contact. Either one, but only one.

Chris, is that you?

Na, just joking. That's not me, but I wish your friend luck.

Can you back up the money owed? If he's refusing to pay you when you confront him on it, you really only have choice, and that's going the legal route. But if you can't back up why he owes you that money, what it was for, and show a promise of repayment, you're up a creek without a paddle. All he needs to do is claim the funds were gifted, and there was never a repayment plan agreed upon.

Complete guess 100%. I checked your profile to see if you had it public, but then just guessed. That's hilarious I got it right. You're either probably paranoid af or texting your coworker right now.
