Looking to invest my first $1000 into crypto currency

Looking to invest $1000 into crypto currency for the first time, any recommendations on what to invest in and on what platform?
If there aren't any restrictions in your country (USA primarily I believe), you can check out www.binance.com as an exchange.
My state doesn't allow me to register in Binance. I have used Gemini and haven't had any problems. Your "safest" assets would be Bitcoin and Ethereum, but I would recommend doing some research.
Staff will never reach out to you off-site. We only communicate on HF.

With $1000, what I would do personally is put 50% in the top 5 (especially BTC/ETH).

Then other 50% I would do my research on lower cap coins (the lower you go the more gains you can get).

With $1000, you're not risking much, so you can diverse your portfolio in more higher risk coins, if you were investing 50k, then I would say 70-80% top 5 and the rest high risk alt coins.

not financial advice, it's what I would personally do
"a fool and his money are soon parted"
50% BTC
30% ETH
10% LTC
10% BCH
BTC, ETH, LTC, XMR

Those are the only good cryptos imo. They've all been established for years, have actual uses, and will be good long term investments. Don't fall for shit coin hype, there's some people that'll say you should invest in some crypto and it'll never be worth anything or it'll lose value by a lot.

I've invested a few hundred into some cryptos the past few years I saw on here and lost basically my whole investment.

No XMR on Gemini, otherwise I agree.

30% BTC
30% ETH
20% Loopring
20% Uniswap
20% NEO
15% OXT
20% REN
35% CHAIN

Risky, but has a high return.

Never hesitate. You'll always regret not going for it.
I have personally been actively balancing alt positions between;

AAVE
LINK
UNI
DOT
ETH

So I maintain about 25% stake in each, I do this algorithmically so if one coin is up 10% and one down 10%, it will rebalance positions etc.

Not financial advice, many coins in the thread above are typically fine to stake/hold. You may wish to just chuck 50% in BTC and others in alts at the current market trends, as BTC is up over 150% this year alone.
Since you don't have a insane amount you should be looking at smaller alts.

100% Nebl Sell on the 15h when cold staking is released

Or less riskier 100% Neo Sell when 3.0 releases

I would go with XMR. The underground is slowly preparing to switch from BTC to XMR entirely. There is tons of money being moved.

50% ETH, 20% XMR, 20% ADA ( wait for ada to dip a little its 0.91 rn little to high ) , 10% into low mcap high risk coins.
Cyber Hustlin'
Whatever coin you decide make sure you buy it from a legit/reputable seller. I got scammed $100 when I tried to buy it online without NYC.
You have to choose exchange, based on your location. However a few good choices, could be Binance, Kraken, Coinbase Pro and Liquid Pro.
I would recommend doing your own research on exchanges as well. There is many things to consider, for example the listed coins, fees (trading, deposit, and withdraw), types of trading and so much more.

When it comes to the trading itself, and what coins you want to buy, you should do your own research as well. With the specified amount, it can be hard to make a good profit on coins like BTC and ETH. If I were to trade with that amount, I would look into some of the well performing alt-coins. (be sure to choose an exchange platform, that supports a good number of these. Coinbase Pro lacks behind on this)

You would also have to choose between HODL or daytrading. Either strategy can be good, and you ultimately have to choose based on your own opinion. It also depends if you have time to trade every day. I personally do both, but I would not recommend doing both, with your allocated budget.

I hope this helps :)
