I received a message when I logged in today, that I believe was meant to have been sent to someone who bought my method, in an attempt to get the method for free instead of purchasing it. This is only a $5 method so it seems crazy, and fickle of me to post, but I imagine this could be happening on a larger scale and sellers are being shorted out of money they should be otherwise paid.



I appreciate that some users may be on low income, may be having some hard times right now, but there wasn't even an offer to barter for it or anything in return. This indicates to me that this has probably happened before, and users like this are taking money away from sellers, and then potentially profiting from that somewhat. Also it means that customers are being pestered by other users, and that can lead to less repeat orders or business in general.

Very strange! I've had people message and ask if they can pay with XYZ or if they can offer a service in return, but I can tell from his message he thought I was the customer and was hoping I'd just send it for free. I mean, this is only a $5 method too! So I have to think he's tried to do the same with many others of varying values.

I agree, it's very suspect behaviour and it completely undermines the whole point of having a marketplace and people working for their money. One to keep an eye on.

Wrong. I bought the method of another HF member, who didn't come online for about a year.
After he came back online, we had a chat and I decided to close my thread out of respect so he can boost up his sales.

Yes, you bought a public method from another user, and then sold that public method to unsuspecting customers who weren't aware that it could be found by typing a few words into the search function of this forum.

Anyways, I digress, this thread is kinda pointless, his account has no time invested into it and getting him closed wouldn't do much either, though I doubt what he's doing warrants closure. Method sales should be disallowed, it just baits the gullible into losing their money as well as drives new users who purchase them away from the forum as they are 99% bullshit and leave the buyer with a feeling of getting finessed.

Stuff like premium tools and services actually provide things that are useful, the method marketplace is horrid, people that use it bring nothing to the forum by selling methods that are public or take a google search to find yourself. I think that a method should only be "useful" if the method name and what it does exactly, cannot be used to do the method without more information that cannot be found publicly. So if the method is to get a secret emoji for hackforums, and you cannot do it yourself with a special code that is private to only the method creator, then its a solid method that should be allowed, but if it can be done without the full method, then it shouldn't exist.

Okay, that's fine, but you're both approaching this topic with hypotheticals and your own personal feelings as opposed to what's best for everyone. Some people make their living here selling methods, and the marketplace enables them to do so. When someone undermines that, they undermine the whole concept and everyone suffers. You cannot police methods and how people put them together, much like you can't police the public marketplace and or items that you, as an individual, find distasteful or something you don't like. If you don't agree with the thread, just ignore it and move on by, you're not adding anything useful to this discussion.
