Using a RAT as RMM of sorts

Hi there

I have an IT business on the side that I want to grow with services like RMM. Most of the popular RMM services out there are expensive for small businesses. I have considered using N-Able as they offered me the best price but it would require me to have at least 20 machines from the start. I have tried lining up clients and then starting the service but I got bitten in the ass big time when a client with 8 machines dropped out last minute and I had to pay out of savings for the losses. I know Atera offers unlimited devices for $80 per technician, which is great for growth but that is too much for me per month when I'm starting out.

I have been reading up and experimenting with a few RATs over that last few days and I realised that RATs offer very similar functionality to RMM software or it will at lease allow me to manage clients PCs remotely with great control. So I was thinking why not use a RAT for PC support? The only real issue is that basically all free RATs are instantly detected by WD and anti-viruses which makes keeping them on the PC more difficult. I am currently looking for ways to keeping a RAT on a PC for as long as possible without using it for something malicious. I was even thinking about modifying an existing RATS source code to only allow certain features and "make it more accepted" by WD and anti-viruses.

I recently found Action1 which is a free RMM up to 100 endpoints, then it is $2 / endpoint / month which is a hell of a lot more affordable. From what I can see the service is currently in development but still works pretty good. I am seriously considering using Action1's services.

Looking for a more experienced opinion
Thanks
