How does Affiliate marketing work?

Well , think of it as promoting services to companies who would like to get customers. And they pay you a price per customer what they feel is right.

For example , if you are starting a company and you know you can make $xxx off a customer in the long term with their details. You would create an offer stating the nature of your company which will have a few fields for the customer to enter. This offer is then being promoted by affiliates , who you will need to pay a certain amount per customer they bring you.

It's exactly what you referred. To give you an example , Suppose you are starting a company providing the service of grooming for dogs. You can promote this in 2 ways.

1. You can find a media buyer and tell them that you want X leads of people who are interested in your service. And you tell them that you will pay them $5 per lead. And let's suppose that you make a profit of $100 off a successful service from 1 customer . So if he sends you 20 leads , and even one of them convert , you have achieved breakeven . In most cases , if you are speaking with experienced media buyers , they will send you qualified leads , so there is a good chance that atleast 3-4 or even more may convert.

2. In the 2nd way , You would contact an affiliate network and let them know the same thing. You offer them $5 per lead , and they will take their commission and maybe offer $4 per lead and ask many of their affiliates to promote it. You will get different leads from different affiliates , and if a specific affiliate's leads are working very well for you ie, almost all his leads are converting to sales, You can let the aff network know about this and bump the payout per lead , which they will let him know and he can increase his traffic and bring you more customers.

It's not easy now to promote and get conversions with free traffic. But some of the best ways would be uploading YT videos , making YT comments , posting answers on Quora , Reddit etc. And joining FB groups for the relevant niche and try to promote your product there.

A combination of all the above done consistently is probably the only way to benefit from free traffic in the long term.

There are a few ways. You could upload your video on your channel and comment on popular videos asking them to visit your channel to get "the niche" , and you could give the comment upvotes and then you could buy services which allow youtube replies to comments where others say that your channel works .
