Help! Recent Graduate Seeking Cybersecurity Jobs in Canada

Hey everyone,

I recently graduated at CDI College, as Cybersecurity Specialist and have been actively looking for cybersecurity jobs in Canada for the past six months. It's been really tough because despite applying to many positions, I haven't received any interview invitations or job offers. I'm starting to wonder if my age has something to do with it or if there's another reason behind this.

I completed my degree in cybersecurity and have relevant certifications like CompTIA Security+ . I did well in my studies and also gained practical experience through some labs. I believe I have a good foundation to start my career.

But no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get any feedback or responses. I've customized my resumes and cover letters to showcase my skills and experiences, but it feels like my applications are going unnoticed.

I'm worried that my age, as a recent graduate in my forties, might be affecting my chances. I've heard stories about age bias in hiring, and it's disheartening to think it might be holding me back, especially when I've worked so hard to build my knowledge and skills.

If anyone has been through a similar situation or has expertise in the cybersecurity job market, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Are there any specific strategies I should try to increase my chances of getting interviews? Should I be concerned about age discrimination? Am I missing something important?

I'm open to any suggestions, recommendations, or personal experiences from fellow job seekers or professionals in the cybersecurity industry. Thank you so much for your support and guidance.
I understand your struggle finding cybersecurity jobs in Canada despite your degree and certifications. Instead of assuming it's because of your age, try networking with cybersecurity professionals, attending events, and customizing your applications. Seek advice from others in the field and stay positive. The right opportunity will come your way.

Best of luck!
Keep cranking out applications, in this day and age a few hundred for a fresh outa school candidate before getting interviews isn't uncommon. Lean on your experience, not your education or certs. While certifications and degrees look nice, the vast majority of people screening applications are looking for actual experience that can show you know what you're doing. Consider applying to other jobs outside of cybersecurity as well, I've known a few different individuals who've started in IT and moved over into cybersecurity after a year or two.

Best of luck! It's a jungle out there.

Hey my man. Don't worry about your age, nobody cares, but as Dyne said you're not supposed to put it on your CV. Also about that age thing, don't limit yourself,it's all psychological. Keep working i hope you the best.
I would recommend getting on linkedin and creating a professional looking profile and looking up other grads from your program and reaching out to them for advice or just reach out and see if they know of any open positions. Networking often leads you to a better path than flooding applications. Don't get down over it, the job market is rough right now for a lot of people and a lot of fields. You may think about finding an internship possibly that's part-time and finding something in tech but at a lower pay grade for now. Lack of experience is a big factor for dismissing resumes. I'd even say, find a resume coach on fiverr and get them to look at it and create a new one for you, there are some ex-recruiting professionals that do a fine job.
Space echoes like an immense tomb, yet the stars still burn. Why does the sun take so long to die?
