Attacks Increased by 427% in September 2023, according to perception point io.
This is a DRAMATIC increase, causing problems throughout cybersecurity from simple payloads loaded from a parking meter to more recent targeted emails in Microsoft QR code phishing emails.
Just like trying to win a race with an empty gas tank, underfunded business execs are in charge of these decisions who don't understand the risk and leave sysadmins and whitehats (if they even exist within the company structure, LOL) navigating the cybersec highway on a shoestring budget. It's like trying to protect Fort Knox with a paperclip – challenging and, errr ridiculous.
QR Code phishing seems to be the meta about these days
Where did you pull these statistics from? Would be interesting to read through it.
QR code phishing seems like it would be much more easier to trick people. I mean even today people still don't check the links or email address of the sender before clicking on things. With a QR code there isn't a visible link the general user would see so it seems like it would be way easier to actually pull off a phishing scheme that way.
The stat is just something I pulled after seeing multiple articles mentioning over 300% increase, but more importantly what I've seen in phishing, specifically the last few weeks of phishing attempts I've been seeing.
I can't be the only one seeing a large increase especially with how the cyber space has evolved, its the new warfare. Whether it is on orgs or citizens, the uptick is a lot. Especially live time updates in panels now its becoming increasingly easy to get involved in these activity with little to no experience in networks, coding, etc.
Not something I thought about. Pretty interesting.
seems much easier to convince people of hmmm

Oh no it seems I've awakened more brilliant minds to 'quishing' LOL.
They are getting alarmingly dangerous for normal employees, especially with what the attackers are targeting for SE.
I'd have to look it up, but I recently came across the CVE that uses the BNB blockchain to write payloads via phishing. No coin, token BS, it simply uses the blockchain infrastructure to install multiple payloads at separate times. It is a super fascinating article that can sometimes begin with QR phish.
Also precisely this. For whatever reason, the human psyche seems more susceptible to a scama pages and such via QR
Very eye opening. Thank you.

I've always kinda felt generalized phishing and getting the audience you'd want is time consuming and sorta difficult to get the results you want.
Never thought about using QR codes and using it at locations that's specific to what you'd want as a target and easy to do. The only real problem is see here is doing this anonymously since you'd be doing this in person, adds more risk.
This is why I always check my addy before sending something in crypto via QR
But yeah, it's indeed smart.

Very interesting, thanks a lot for sharing such info.
“You are confined only by the walls you build yourself.”
I've seen spreading payloads in my city with QR codes, never mind the emails in my day to days.
I found a GitHub opensource botnet at an ATM that claims to be a lottery hack on the sticker LOL
