Backend or GUI?

Do you prefer backend software development, or do you enjoy frontend / GUI dev more? Personally I don't enjoy doing the actual coding for the frontend, but love designing the UIs and end user experience. For actual dev work, I prefer backend because it's more like a science, or math - usually an input output system with some sort of user permissions, for whatever use cases. However, overall I'd rather stick to creating and managing the projects and enjoying the perks of developing what I choose to rather than only doing backend or frontend, so I guess for me it's a bit of both.

Indeed Backend is way more challenging and fun compared to designing UI, I cannot be "Full Stack Developer" since frontend takes lot of time even with Drag n Drop builders., I guess that's why those fronted dev exists.

Checkout teleporthq or some of the figma plugins, you can design and export to html, react, next, Angular, vue, or others automatically. Start with their templates and then learn how to build out your own frontend components. Less frontend Dev, a lot less QA, and more backend logic
Backend is far more enjoyable. Trying to get fiddly UIs to work on all platforms is not fun

I also hate frontend, however I have to deal with it on a daily basis. Most of the time it's quite easy to achieve but when it comes to implement functionalities I never done before and feel like it's going to be time consuming I just hire someone on Fiverr and get the job done within a day or two.
What's cool tho is that AI are getting better and better, especially with the frontend and will soon replace my little indian workers I hope.

Yeah, all devices, all breakpoints, all browsers. It can get quite tedious, but with proper component libraries (internal or not) it gets easier over time. Plus there's a lot of services like lambdatest or similar that can make this more efficient. We use ADA, SEO, and performance scanners as well to check our work.

Yeah, AI is quickly destroying the already over-saturated frontend market. It's great with backend logic too, but a lot of times backend isn't the time consuming part of a project, it's the frontend, so we're focusing on replacing frontend devs with as many automations and design export processes as we can.

I mean I can throw up a working basic GUI too with ImGui or WinForms but it's 2023.
I can write one advanced but will take 1-2 weeks, considering controls padding, themes, animations etc...
Backend is vastly more complicated (fact), therefore to me also more interesting. There is little to no technical knowledge required for making a decent frontend. At best you can do some functional style stuff like Monads but it's all overkill.

UI at this rate is more the expertise of UX than a developer which is okay and it's not meant to be a personal attack, their skills are just more aligned with UX people than technical backend engineers
backend with ascci gui on the terminal

I think you mean ASCII ?

I like using it, but I mostly just use asterisks to create section headers for options, or information / notes that print out - super simple stuff mostly. I haven't gotten into any elaborate ASCII art or splash screens lately, but there are some interesting generators out there and premades that can be cool.

- Sorry if you are talking about something else called ascci gui.
I’ve always preferred the backend, but doing what I do forced me to get into front stack as well.

I personally prefer writing application logic over gui.

Backend application logic is nice because it feels safe & calculated. You can test easier, things are usually boolean solutions - true/false, or a matching struct / types for returns which can be evaluated at build or run time for any possible errors. Frontend on the other end can often be plagued by client choices, bad data entry, cross browser and/or device support, etc. It's also more opinionated than backend.

did you programed it ?

Ah good to know. I am assuming Tentco likely generated that with an LLM or an ASCII generator tool.
