Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball Z, has passed away at age 68

Just as the title states; the legendary Dragon Ball Z creator, Akira Toriyama, passed away at age 68 on March 1st, 2024 due to a subdural hematoma. The news was just released only 4 hours ago via an X post from their official page which can be found below. I'm assuming they waited as the tragedy of death in Japanese culture is taken much more seriously than here in the west, and for all we know a multitude of other reasons. It's also hard to hear that there were numerous other DBZ projects in the works still.

At the end of the day, we lost an anime legend and may he RIP. 🙏

DBZ's Official X Post Wrote:Dear Friends and Partners,
We are deeply saddened to inform you that Manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to acute subdural hematoma. He was in age of 68. It' s our deep regret that he still had several works in the middle of creation with great enthusiasm. Also, he would have many more things to achieve. However, he has left many manga titles and works of art to this world. Thanks to the support of so many people around the world, he has been able to continue his creative activities for over 45 years. We hope that Akira Toriyama' s unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come.

We inform you this sad news, with gratefulness for your kindness during his lifetime. Funeral service was held with his family and very few relatives. Following his wishes for tranquility, we respectfully inform you that we would not accept flowers, condolences gifts, visiting, offerings and others. Also, we ask you to refrain from conducting interviews with his family. Future plan for commemorate gathering is not decided, we will let you know when it' s confirmed. We deeply thank you for your understanding and support as always.

No way ... It's a sad day for a lot of people on earth.

I remember that I saw an interview when he didn't expect that Dragon Ball would turn into Dragon Ball Z in this way as it was not his kind of manga (shonen). His style was more as his previous manga called Dr.Slump where we see Arale (which also appears in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Super).

We shouldn't be sad to loose him, we should be happy that we had him.

That's funny because I'm currently watching Dragon Ball GT (episode 8 or 9) as I only saw random episodes when I was younger and didn't follow the story line.

Thanks Akira, rest in peace
I was crying when I read this on X. I'm lost for words.

Rest In Peace Akira.

Yeah man RIP to the creator of such a significant impactful work on this life and planet. Individuals like him are the true saviors and the true creators. So much love and gratitude to him. Sending love that no words can describe. Thank you.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that line. I was like I was struck by lightning. I'm very sad about it, he could have lived for a while longer. This is really incomprehensible. Death at 68 years old. I don't think I'm paranoid. I believe that Master Toriyama was vaccinated with an mRNA injection. This probably had an effect on his health. We loyal followers would love to find Dragon Ball to resurrect him.

Apparently he'll be training with the gods beyond.

😭
Oh man, the joy I had watching Dragonball as a kid... RIP

Oh man. This is hard to hear. At one point, Dragon Ball was my favorite anime. It's still one of my favorites, and it sucks to know that he had several projects in the works, probably for Dragon Ball Super. He was working with a team though. Maybe that team will go ahead and continue those projects in memory of him?
This is absolutely gut wrenching to hear about.
