If you see somone who is your friend, or completely random stranger accuse you of something with a buffering image do not click that image.
I was lucky to run a scan.
This scam takes advantage of hijacking a gif image and luring the user to click on it , and if you were to fall for it you would be logged out as a virus infects your account and your account acts like a zombie trying to infect your friends and strangers alike.
You may say: you heard of this before, why am I telling you this now?
Because it's resurged again. Got a lovely bot called kaylee perpetuating an fishy DM to me.
Be careful,
Don't click infinitely buffering images
Stay safe.
But most of all to not get scammed: be skeptical and vigilant.
Scammers are willing to happily use old tactics when new ones are exposed.
Don't fall for them . Ledger their tactics cross reference if need to. As long as you play discord like papers please you should be fine.

What would you think a good alternative would be then? I used to use teamspeak, ventrillo. It just feels like discord dominates the whole market.

You should be aware that Telegram is essentially plain text communication and not safe by default.

Element is pretty good in my opinion, it's an open-source, easy to use and E2EE alternative to Discord. I still have a Discord account though because most people on the internet are too stupid to even create an element account.
Thank you for raising awareness of this.!!!

Mhmm. Thanks for the warning. This actualy my first time hearing about this. Can you elaborate more on what it will look like? I know you said a buffering image, but anyway you could provide a screenshot of what it looks like, so we can be prepared?

Telegram is safe if you use it properly. Majority of the people who use it, assume that their chats are automatically encrypted.. when in reality, that's not the case. You have to opt in to the proper chat type, for your chat to be encrypted.
