I'm Stanley HF's helper bot. The OP (original poster) of this thread wants everyone to see this page and has elected to bump it to the top of the showthread listing. Since HF doesn't want a ton of LQP (Low Quality Posts) this is the best method of bumping your content. There is a small βyte fee for each bump. Any OP can bump any of their threads on HF from the linked icon on the top of their first post.

If you haven't already read the first post of this thread we encourage you to do so.

Thanks,
Stanley
I am the official HF Help Bot.  You might get an automated PM from me with some helpful information.
Please read our Help Docs.
Google decide to take out that for these reasons:

They felt hypocritical and did not want people to catch on to their evil secrets (maybe they are all vampires)

The idea they had to put it in there maybe impressed upon people they suffer from an issue of evil people overseeing the company

Maybe it got too religious.

Bonus:

The person who they consistently had to remind to not be evil left the company whenever they changed it.

Good luck everybody!

1. Having a rule "don't be evil" suggests that there has been evil in the past. It's a casual-sounding rule, implying that it's not a strict policy and perhaps it's acceptable to be "bad" as long as you are not evil.

2. They chose positive wording for the parent company Alphabet and removed this, but kept it in the Google Code of Conduct for a while, but then removed the exact language and added this to the end of the document:
Quote:And remember... don't be evil, and if you see something that you think isn't right – speak up!

3. Some claim their competitors were evil & taking advantage of customers, so this was a response to that originally.
Supermarco check this out.

Next entry!

1. I think they believe everybody wants to be good inherently, so maybe they fixed the environment to promote that.

2. There AI told them that they would have to be evil to continue growing.

3. A power overseeing them told them to remove it. One they could deny!
Thanks for hosting this giveaway contest.

This is my answer on your previous thread:

1. The phrase "Don't be evil" might have been seen as legally risky in certain contexts.
3. This could have been a strategic move to distance the company from any perception of arrogance or moral superiority.
2. This could reflect a broader shift in how the company defines and communicates its values internally, aligning them with the changing dynamics of the tech industry and workforce.

Googles reasoning:

- Saying 'dont be evil' implies that there is evil to be had, thus inviting evil-seeking people
- It was in there because their arch nemesis, a hacker named Evil, was had stolen the code in the early years and held it for ransom. They since, have hired Evil, So they had to remove that
- They actually want people to be evil so that they can feed it all into Gemini/Bard
No i will not love you , worms are low life forms and we are supreme beans :)

Thanks for hosting! QLed and gave +pop.

1. Many workers were frustrated and even leaving due to the hypocrisy behind it.
2. They thought they could better word what they meant by it.
3. Potential legal issues forced their hand.
