Hypnerotomachia Poliphili by Francesco Colonna translated by Joscelyn Godwin.
".. called in English Poliphilo's Strife of Love in a Dream or The Dream of Poliphilus, is a book said to be by Francesco Colonna. It is a famous example of an incunable (a work of early printing). The work was first published in 1499 in Venice by Aldus Manutius. This first edition has an elegant page layout, with refined woodcut illustrations in an Early Renaissance style. Hypnerotomachia Poliphili presents a mysterious arcane allegory in which the main protagonist, Poliphilo, pursues his love, Polia, through a dreamlike landscape. In the end, he is reconciled with her by the "Fountain of Venus"." This book was a number of firsts for me, but I enjoyed it. It is pretty old, too. Recently I read "A Dream of Wessex", by Christopher Priest and sincerely enjoyed that. Without spoiling it, it's a great Sci-Fi set in 1985 wherein a privately-funded organisation based in England is conducting a research project using the country's 'most brilliant minds'.
The participants use a machine to form a virtual reality that is generated from their collective unconsciousness' to create a projection of an idealistic world they would collectively imagine would exist in the future, a world in which they are tasked with figuring how to deal with the current time's many problems... However, the virtual reality is revealed as fragile when introduced to changes in the unconscious collection of fallible minds that it is made up of relies upon. Picked it up after reading Mark Fisher's overview of it from his old K-Punk blog. Love a good Sci-Fi with interesting themes! The Alchemist is an amazing book, I recommend it to everyone as one of those must read books. I'm thinking about re-reading it again soon. I recently read Salem's Lot by Stephen King. It had a slow boring start but man what a great story. Creepy as hell too.
Honestly just haven't read a book in I don't even know how long lol. I do plenty of reading, don't get me wrong. Just not books anymore.
