So can one become an expert exclusively through various HTB platforms? How good on a scale of one to 10 is maximum skill you can gain through HTB?
How good at hacking is it possible to get through hack the box theoretically? |

Hack The Box (HTB) is excellent for developing practical hacking skills. Theoretically, you can reach a high level of expertise by extensively engaging with HTB challenges, but the platform alone might not cover every aspect of hacking.
You can become very skilled—around 7 to 8 out of 10. Real-world experience, additional training, and exposure to other tools and environments are also crucial. HTB is a strong part of a broader learning journey.

Well as 15khud3 said, (HTB) will help you understand and learn more than you know right now but also you need to have that dedication and passion for exploiting/hacking. As someone else mentioned basically to become a hacker you should be able to make your own exploits and such, know how those works and what they hit in particular. Using pre-made stuffs its cool but not everything works so waiting for the dev to put another exploiter that fixes the current gap in (the current non working exploiter) its just annoying sometimes. Learn the basics of whatever you're into, practice and you'll become better and better after each practice session. There's plenty of websites that can help you learn more and more, even a thread made in this section.

At what point on HTB would you recommend adding in another platform? I'm working on CPTS and I know they are gonna add in a more advanced network pentesting cert afterwards that goes beyond CPTS and builds upon it so I am gonna do those two courses and need to continue practicing network penetration testing the question is then I want to get to next level after that and really work to understand hacking all-around at a literate level. Anyway, at what point do you recommend adding in another platform? When I have done a couple of endgames?

I am not saying you are stupid or dumb but having sharp logic when it comes to common sense is a bonus factor if you play HTB and something alike.
A good start would be PicoCTF (just google it then you are good to go) since you also need problem solving skills aside hacking skills. It's not for kids, just encouraged for kids who have interest in cyber security. |
