Well, the fact that it’s not a 12/24 episode anime that ends is probably a small reason.

I don’t watch it personally, but it’s a huge anime with a lot of fans and also a lot of stories going on (you’d hope so with the number of episodes they have).

I started because all my friends said it was better than Naruto (my former favorite). I stayed with it (read the manga every drop) because Oda write the characters so well. Each member of the crew to me has something you can enjoy about them. The world building and how everything/everyone gets called back in some way makes it so great. Also, for me, I didn't want what the 'One Piece' actually is to be spoiled for me.

So basically if your working at home and ur able to like watch or read stuff you should 100% do it, it has hella episodes, the fights are great (sometimes way TOO long) but the more u get used to the story the more it catches u :D

Pacing is an issue, but there's some good fan projects that bring the pacing more in line with the manga and cuts filler down substantially. I think the main one is One Pace?

For me I think that it does a really good job at foreshadowing future plot point and has a pretty good storyline. Like most animes it has its misses but all in all I think its pretty good.
