Do you think electric cars will completely replace gas powered cars?

With the push towards clean energy, do you think electric cars will eventually replace gas powered cars completely? How soon do you think it'll happen, if ever?

I don't think so. I'm a Tesla owner and I love my car, but I can't see everyone making the switch. If they did, the grid probably couldn't handle it. The range on EV's aren't great. Charge time is pretty slow. There's so many factors at play. Also it's said that our roads couldn't handle the extra weight.

Don't fall for a scam, use a middleman!

I agree with that. But if we take a look at California, don't they have plans to completely stop the production of gas powered cars?

Electric cars are definitely a big switch. From not needing gas stations, installing a charger at home (potentially), to potentially having gas stations run out of business. So many different pros and cons to this.

It's very tricky.

There's the strain on the grid, of course, though some call that an 'EV myth'. What I'm worried about, maybe even more, is the raw materials for batteries. We're talking about a half-ton of batteries per vehicle.

Yup that's a concern. Plus disposal of the batteries too. I also saw an article about cars catching on fire after the flooding in Florida... If everyone has an EV and there is a flood, we're all fucked.

I imagine there will be a time when it does, but may not be for a while. That said i’ll always like driving my 1987 porsche. That love will never be replaced.

Yup! Some places are starting to phase out gas cars. But how I see it, they can never COMPLETELY ban gas cars. the amount of them that exist is crazy... If anything, they can stop the production, but there will still be a used car market - and if there's no more production, used car prices will probably jump up a bit.

Nope.
I won’t see it in my lifetime.
People who believe Ev’s are better for the environment are mentally retarded. The amount of carbon that’s output to mine the materials necessary to make the batteries is wild, plus, we don’t have a truly effective way to fight the fires that are caused by EV.

Yall see the vid of the tesla exploding in the garage. Frick that.

Well i dont think the replace will hapen very soon as gas car its a powerful industry and it will last some years more

You think so, eh? I do agree with you in terms of the carbon output for the batteries. And 100% its important to have a good way to fight fires caused by EVs before they take over (if theydo*). I feel like there is a really big push these days.

Or is it kinda like what they did to plastic straws (at least where I live) - they banned them for about a year or two, started to have paper straws, now we are back to plastic straws because the government realized plastic straws are actually ok, and the paper ones are harmful to our health.

Yes!! I saw this video the other day. its wild. I also saw a video of a fireman showing the equipment they have specifically designed to put out EV fires. It was interesting to watch. Kinda crazy how a car can light up on fire just by being in some salt water...

Yeah, this kind of thing takes a LONG time to do... I agree, it will probably take many many years. Also, what will happen to all of the gas cars that currently exist?

Nope, I belief hydrogen fuel will replace gas powered cars in the future EVs are not sustainable.
Eventually yes, but the ambitions of many governments in the world are way to high.
You can't just push those things around and expect people to buy them.

Long term answer: Yes. But will it be any time soon? No way. Gas powered vehicles will be around for decades, as long as they're still allowed on the road.

Thats an interesting perspective. I feel like hydrogen powered things are just gaining traction now. If I'm not mistaken, there already are hydrogen powered cars (maybe one or two being developed?)

Yes for sure. I'm sure many people are hesitant. Do you think more incentives would help people feel more comfortable making the switch?

I agree, it will probably take decades before we see a major shift. Also, some people might not want to switch if their current cars are still working fine, especially if gas vehicles are still allowed. I think it will take time for everyone to adapt, and it depends on how fast the electric car industry can solve issues like cost and infrastructure. Do you think people will start to switch faster if gas cars become more expensive to maintain or fuel?
