Halo Moves to Unreal Engine 5

In a groundbreaking announcement, 343 Industries has revealed that the Halo franchise is transitioning to Unreal Engine 5. This shift comes alongside the unveiling of a research initiative dubbed Project Foundry, which has been in the works to lay the groundwork for the next Halo installment.

Early looks at Project Foundry suggest a commitment to innovation while preserving the core elements that define Halo.

I believe 343 Industries has struggled to capture the magic of the original Halo games, and I’ll always miss Bungie’s influence. What are your thoughts on this transition to Unreal Engine 5? How do you think it will shape the future of the franchise?

Unreal Engine 5 is a fantastic way to go for Halo. I'm sure it's going to turn out amazingly!

I’m hoping that’s the case as well 🤞

Funny story when it came to Halo Infinite... Previously for temporary contracts, they'd be trying to get used to the BLAM engine over the span of two years. By the time they finally got the hang of things, their contract was almost over and they couldn't renew it. This is one of several reasons why Halo Infinite wasn't great at launch, sadly. The next Halo games being made with Unreal Engine 5 is a huge step in the right direction and I'm curious to see how things go.

Switching to Unreal Engine 5 definitely seems like a smart move; it's a widely-used engine with a lot of flexibility, so it could help streamline development for future Halo games.

I'm curious to see how it impacts the series too. Wondering if they're going to proceed with remakes or build new ones

bout time a studio does good for their games lol
Seeing as Unreal Engine 5 is amazing and even indie developers had used it to make some stunning games I hope that they can listen to their fan base and bring a decent game to Xbox since its been so long that I can't even remember playing any of the newer Halo's besides 1, 2 and 3. Halo has lost so many fans due to not listening hopefully they can use the multiple years of feedback to make a good game that feels like smooth since its really flexible engine that is always updated and has proven to work well on multiple platforms.

I think transitioning to Unreal should be a good thing for them.

I hope they can also bring on some of the other bungie workers, to help bring back that HALO feeling.

Bungie is mega shit now, and is making the same game, over and over, reskinned hard.

I think this shows an overall commitment to the series. Hopefully, that means they're willing to hear out the community when it comes to feedback so we will soon see.

I still play Halo MCC, and I have a damn fun time in H2/H3 SWAT.

I'm sure I've seen you around then. 😎
