My laptop got Fried is what the repair center said

I have a sony VAIO which I really love, it has a lot of my finished works, personal codes and my projects I completed over the years, I just don't wish to let it go. I kept on upgrading the Specs as time moved on, as of now the repair center is asking me $390 to change its motherboard.

Why I need a changed motherboard is odd.

Suddenly after years of the laptop working fine, few days ago or a week ago it decided to stop charging, it just ate up the remaining battery, I decided to try fix it via youtube video but I was unable to do so, the only fix I found might work (motherboard fault - as told by the repair center) was to change 4 IC chips on the board but I don't think that is the issue.

If the motherboard was fucked up then it would not have worked on the battery at all right?

It just won't charge up, and that is the only issue, I don't want to spend $390 on a DDR4 motherboard at this age and time as they say the v of the motherboard is outdated and can't be found and needs be imported from another place thus the pricing will increase to 390, the original price is 225 that which I am not sure I wish to pay, any ideas if anyone faces the charging issue with VAIO laptops or any fix?

I tried approaching them to change the charging socket but they were stupid and stubborn and kept saying me if they were the tech mechanic's or I was, they won't replace the power charge point and kept insisting me to replace the motherboard/ one last thing, when I hit home and flip open the case of the laptop, I see a RAM is changed to ADATA module from the original Sony official RAM module, the original RAM was 8x2 16G of ram of Sony official, and now its 8x1 Sony and 8x1 ADATA ram, now I am angry with the center and wish I had never left the laptop with them, don't know what else they changed off it.

Anyway, sooner or later I will comfort them for this, but ATM I am busy, and I tested the RAM on another laptop at my workplace and seem to work so I won't bother them now, but once I am free from my work zone and back to my comfort zone I will assert my anger onto them, they played it bad on me.

What I learned!

Always, take pictures of your hardware before handing it out for repair, and if possible mark it with some marker or something so you know its not replaced.
Now I just need the laptop fixed, if its not fixed, I will need to find another way to use its remaining components as the RAM, SSD, the Monitor and throw away the rest over the E-BIN or sale it maybe, but I am a geeky guy and really love to keep my old stuff with me as a memento as it gives a state of security that I had it with me for the old times sake!
I keep mark of my things whatever they are when I hand them over. If the item is active then I also make sure my privacy is intact and password protection is there.

Call me paranoid but I do this with almost everything.
Sony VAIO.. I still have one of those in my closet. They're great laptops, I gotta give Sony credit on that line of laptops. When I got it, it was a year passed the date of release, and it was still better then alot of the laptops my friends had. On to your problem.. I wouldn't spend $390 on a new motherboard, as the laptop is old and can only be upgraded so far. I know I've maxed mine out as far as upgrades, and is why it's sitting in the closet.

The price on laptops have gone down ridiculously over the recent years, great time to shop for something new. Not sure what your budget is, but you can get a pretty decent budget Gaming/Video Editing laptop for around $500. If you insist on getting it repaired, then I would take it to a second shop to have another look. The one you took it to can just be blowing smoke up your rear.
Sounds like the DC power jack needs to be replaced. It's a solder job, so I wouldn't do it. Just find a repair tech willing to do solder work.

Thanks for the idea, I will take it onto another shop for a second look into it.

That is what I was saying them but they were annoying, I will take to another shop for a look.

Sure? What model does OP have? for example in this video the fella has a $60 part and just does it himself at home, screws but no soldering required ? 😎
