I am going to start doing these movie reviews more often. Me and my girlfriend @edgyseptic@ watch movies just about every night. I have seen a LOT of movies; in fact, there is almost no movie comedy/horror that I haven't seen. Regardless, I love to have a movie date night with my girlfriend. We both enjoy picking apart movies and giving insight to each other about what we think on particular scenes. I don't know how detailed I will make these, as I will try to write them when I have a chunk of time available. I don't like drafting threads/posts lol.
If you guys enjoy reading these reviews, then feel free to let me know! I want to write these in a way where you all are allowed to share your viewing experience and your own thoughts on the film. If you guys have a particular recommendation for me to watch, feel free to let me know!

Minor Summary:
Just a fair warning, there are going to be spoilers. I will try my absolute best to keep them to a minimal but there will be parts where I describe a scene pretty explicitly. You have been warned. I highly enjoyed The Whale, I really did. The entire movie revolves around Charles (played by Brendan Fraser), our main character; an obese and physically handicapped gentleman. Charles is the quintessential glutton and it shows. Very early on we learn that Charles is a homosexual; as we see in the opening scene where he is masturbating to homoerotic material on his computer. We also learn that Charles, due to his extreme and excessive increase in weight, experiences symptoms of congestive heart failure. He has an extremely high blood pressure and has all sorts of pains and can barely breathe. His caretaker, Liz (played by Hong Chau), has been overseeing him and appears inherently concerned for Charles' well-being throughout the film.
Charles has a daughter, Ellie (played by Sadie Sink), who has extreme resentment towards her father Charles. Ellie reveals that Charles had abandoned Ellie and his ex-wife to pursue a male student of his; one that would be the cause of Charles' entire downfall. See, Charles struggles with grief, and overcoming it is something he can't seem to do. He holds guilt for many things: Abandoning his daughter and ex-wife, letting himself go and allowing himself to be consumed by gluttony, and feelings of responsibility for his partners death. This partner, who's named Alan but never fully shown at any point in the movie, used to be a part of some cult; "New Life". This cult would be the reasoning behind his mysterious death. The concept of this cult, in my opinion, plays very little part in the movie. If anything, it just adds a little extra padding and adds a touch to the main story.
Review: All in all, I think it was an excellent film. Me and my girlfriend both cried at the end, and it just sent me chills nearly the entire viewing. I think what saddened me the most was seeing Charles, a man who once had a family, was doing well in life; be completely consumed by gluttony and grief. Seeing a man capable of such self-destruction is almost horrific. I encourage you to watch it, it is a fantastic watch in my opinion. 7.5/10
If you guys have already seen it, what are your thoughts on the film?
