Word of mouth is a powerful thing. I don't always quite understand it either. I play a video game called Skate 3, and have been competitively involved with its community since 2012. The Skate 3 community is extremely toxic and naïve. Throughout the past 12 years, that community has seen me grow up. That community has seen my most vulnerable stages of life, all of my cringe moments, all of my mistakes, and a lot of my experiences. You might ask, why have I rewarded the community with all of that if its so toxic? Well, I don't quite know entirely. Part of me had some hope that there wasn't solely toxicity that filled the community. I have been involved with many gaming communities and there has never been any experience quite like Skate 3s. Throughout my time in the Skate 3 community: I have been slandered, ridiculed, and harassed to the point where I would have numerous people calling my phone and yell racial slurs at me amongst other disrespectful names.
It is in my understanding that a lot of the individuals who have been harassing me have been doing so with information attained by word of mouth. There isn't any real substance to these claims either, pure word of mouth. Some of the claims that have been used against me is that I may be lying about my age: 18 years old, 1/19/2006; that I have somehow 39 felonies lmao, only 1. I have also heard rumors of me being racist and homophobic, but there wasn't much developed there. In case the point isn't clear, These are all false. Yet, a lot of people dislike me in that community because they believe it all. I really do not understand.
I know some people here on HF has questioned that I am actually homeless; apparently due to previous circumstances. With a lot of confusion going around, I have always offered proof of anything and everything. I have, and I have hoped that any shred of "proof" I can offer would merely clear the unknown. Is there any remedy to this? I mean, members of the Skate community are so hell bent on their beliefs I could give them my social security number and a copy of my birth certificate and they wouldn't believe me lmao. I know that maybe I shouldn't allow it to bother me as much, but it genuinely has. Being outcaste by an entire community just because of some rumors is pretty damaging, it is. obviously I am going to continue playing Skate 3 and I am going to continue to interact with positive people inside the community. I guess what I am asking, is that is there any way to handle this situation or anything I can do to at least alleviate some harassment? Do I just ignore these people?
