Today Penny was found Not Guilty. Finally some justice. He should not have ever been prosecuted to begin with.

Quote:Eric Garner's mother, Gwen Carr, also spoke outside the courthouse, saying, "no one deserves to be choked to death."
This sums up my thoughts on the matter pretty well.
I concede, I don't know absolute full details of the case. Remember it briefly popping up on Newsfeed last year at some point, watching a video of it, and just thinking that I felt for the family. American justice seems to be tough, and this is coming from somebody who has some first-hand experience of the roughness of the UK justice system.
One thing I can say for sure, is I have never seen or heard of a man being choked to death whilst saying "I can't breathe" 11 times in the UK. This might be the third time I've seen/heard of it in the US, since George Floyd.
You can usually gauge people's general feelings on policing by asking them what they think of Derek Chauvin. Those who somehow still think he's innocent are generally worth giving a wide berth, imo.
I hadn't even heard about this.
I must ask, does the majority of people need to point out race continuously in the USA? Seems really spastic, and makes the country look like a joke.
Quote:They included seven women and five men, with at least seven White people, one Hispanic person, one Filipino person, one Black person and one person of Middle Eastern descent.

These are details that really do not need to be mentioned.

IMO, we are not in a position to decide, who knows he did chokehold him and he died. Maybe he didn't! But who knows, black life does matter? or maybe not? who knows, just my opinion, not being on anyone's side. Just we are not to judge based on news reports.

For once it feels like the tides are turning, this truly felt like justice IMO and glad they did not fall for "wokeness" for once.

Imo, they do need to be mentioned. Purely to put an immediate halt to what would inevitably become the "omg he was acquitted by twelve white middle-aged guys" rhetoric.
I'm willing to respect a jury's decision, regardless of whether or not I agree with it based on the limited information I have. There's a reason trials take weeks and jury's take days deliberating. They are supposed to know everything (or almost everything). We definitely don't.

Their race doesn't matter.
It only matters to people who believe in race baiting.

Do you have any idea how many people are influenced by fake news clickbaits such as "12 white men acquit fellow white man of brutal murder of black man"? Releasing some limited info on the actual make-up of the jury helps to counter this. We only have to go back to 2021 to see what fake news does in America - verge of civil war and all...

So I had never heard of this personally, but I just read the entire Wikipedia article about it. Seems like a tricky situation for sure. I don't really have an opinion because as an outsider who didn't see the trial, I am sure there is a lot the Wikipedia article doesn't cover. But I do think it highlights the important of mental health services, especially for those who are homeless, live on the streets, or aren't as well off/educated. Perhaps if he had more help the situation could have been avoided, but at the same time, I don't know what he was doing to help himself as well. NYC is such a crazy place, so different than the laid back vibes where I live lol.
btw, a key piece of evidence came out in the trial...that the victim was still alive when the police showed up.
So how the fuck was he "choked to death"?
Second key piece of evidence....he was high as fuck on drugs like Fentanyl.
What's going on in Democrat run cities is insane. The entire prosecution of Penny was race related.

What's going on in Democrat run cities is insane. The entire prosecution of Penny was race related. Some key things to consider.
1. Having a pulse doesn't mean the choke hold didn't do harm or cause this death, a brain suffers permanent damage after 4 minutes without oxygen, your organs including your heart (the pulse the officers observed) can continue to function for a while even hours after loss of oxygen as this comes from the brain stem and the brain stem may not have gone without oxygen long enough to cause immediate death.
A basic example, just because someone is shot and doesn't die immediately but ends up dying later whether it be in transport to a hospital or in the hospital did that person still not die from being shot?.
2. From what I read they did not find Fentanyl in his system but instead found synthetic marijuana.
It seems the bar for manslaughter in New York is killing someone without the intent to do so, but in a case of recklessness or negligence. It's really hard to say with what evidence we have if he met that bar in my opinion.
Did he /need/ to step in and put the dude in the chokehold? If he left the homeless man alone would he have just rambled on but not ultimately assaulted anyone? All theoretical we can't / don't know.
I think if he got a manslaughter charge with probation and little to no time served it'd be closer to justice but I don't know enough details of the case personally. I can say pretty confidently nothing indicates to me that he just showed up with the intention of killing someone that day, but maybe, at worse got a bit vigilant which led to undesirable outcomes.

Hold firm to that belief for past and future cases when a jury finds or has previously found someone guilty and not guilty.
Every time I read something like this I remember how god damn stupid the general public truly is. Someone who was screaming death threats and making aggressive movements towards mothers and children need not be a part of a civilized society. This isn't a topic I'm going to debate. If anyone disagrees, you should seek mental health help and learn how to cope with the fact that actions have consequences.
