EU to start drafting new sanctions against Russia next week, media reports

The European Commission plans to begin drafting new sanctions against Russia next week, with the goal of approving the package on Feb. 24 — the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Polish RMF FM reports.

Starting Jan. 14, the European Commission will hold consultations with EU member states on the 16th sanctions package, according to European diplomats. During these discussions, EU ambassadors will share their proposals and address concerns related to the upcoming measures.

Once this process is complete, the European Commission will present its own proposals, which require unanimous support from all EU countries. Poland, currently holding the EU presidency, is pushing for the sanctions package to be finalized by the war's anniversary on Feb. 24.
It's good to see the EU taking action against Russia. Hopefully, these new sanctions will help deter further aggression.

The sad fact of the matter is no matter how many sanctions are placed on Russia it won't stop the war, it won't bring back the 5 territories Ukraine has already lost, and it won't help Ukraine win this war. Ukraine has already lost this war, their economy doesn't exist any more, and western support for Ukraine is about to take a nosedive. European support for Ukraine won't be sufficient either because not all European countries agree to continue funding this any more. Zelensky has already pissed off a number of European countries to the point they refuse to vote to fund Ukraine any more. Cutting off a critical supply line of gas was a big mistake of his. And Trump wants this to end as well. He's not a fan of funding Ukraine either. There is no point in this war continuing. It is only Zelensky that wants this to continue. And he's an illegitimate president as it is. So there is no upside to any of this. Germany and its industrial sector has also been destroyed because of Ukraine and Joe Biden's decision to blow up Nordstream. Without cheap Russian gas many other nations and industries have been sacrificed for the clown president in Ukraine and I believe this is all about to end. And when they string Zelensky up in a public square like they did to Saddam, I'm gonna be there watching. Because all those mothers who lost their sons and husbands to this idiotic war are never going to forget who forced their children to go to the front lines and die while being under-trained, under-equipped, under fed, and with officers that couldn't find their ass with both hands.
