i would really appreciate a few minutes of your time to hear your thoughts about what happened to my dog and i today.

i can really use some solid advice from anyone here about tacking legal action since both my dog and i have injuries from the attack.

ok here we go

today around 4 p.m. pacific time i took my 7 year old female pitbull outside to go to the bathroom and just to go on a short walk. unfortunately i live in an apartment complex so theres always the risk of coming in contact to to some dimwit and their dim dog that is off their leash, or barks at my dog, or even tries to aggressively approach my dog.

there was this one time about a month ago i just stepped outside my front door and turned the corner of the walkway and here comes this stupid little fluffy dog that slipped out of its collar and starts biting my dog. the owner starts screaming as she's running up to my dog and i withe her dogs collar and leash in her hand and slips on small slope of grass that was still wet from the rain the night before and fell so hard on her back i could feel the concrete slab of the walkway move. it was so loud i honestly thought she cracked her head open.

back to what happened today. as my dog and i are out in this grassy area where they have poop bag dispensers and garbage cans for the dog shit. when im out with my dog i have her in a two point harness with a leash that ataches to the front of her chest and her collar at the same point and another part of the leash connects to a spot of her harness on the back of her neck area. super secure and controllable, shes a 70 pound dog, shes a big girl. so only after bieing outside for 5 minutes i see two little dogs come running down the stairs from this apartment that had the front door wide open. as soon as i saw that i started yelling "HEY" "HEY". "NO, NO" "HELP, HELP" thinking someone would come out the apartment that the dogs came out of, but nobody came. they made a straight line right towards my dog and they both jumped on her face to face, one dog on each side of my dogs face. it was. impossible for me to hold my dog back with one hand and get the other two dogs off. i would try to pull one dog off but their teeth were dug into my dogs cheek and my dogs cheek would just stretch out. there would be times where i would be able to get one dog off of mine but they it would come at me. this went on for probably two minutes, my dog and i just getting attacked. thankfully some of the neighbors came out to help, and it took a second guy over a minute just to get a dog to stop biting my dog. again all i could see was my dogs cheeks being stretched out from the other dogs teeth being sank into my dogs face. i had slides on and half my big toe nail got broke off and a big gash on the side of my big toe from trying to get away from being attacked from those two dogs. if it wasnt for the neighbors coming out to help im not sure what would have happened. but in the end the my dogs head that has white fur was just covered on red from all her blood. when i got my dog back to my apartment her legs and paws were all scrapped up and her neck was already swelling up.

thats kinda the short version with all the important facts. i called animal control and 911 and filled out the reports. but what i want help with is knowing what action to take legally. i want to call an injury lawyer to have the bills im going to have to pay for to get my dog checked out. i wouldnt be surpirsed if the owners of the dogs who attacked us never got their shots and who knows my dog and i are gna have to get checked for raibies because one of the small dogs bit my shit, i was bleeding from that. but im wondering how does it work trying to sure the owners of those two dogs for the injuries that my dog and i got and the medical bills, and the mental and phyiscal trauma. this person lives in an apartment complex so i doubt he has any kind of insurance or money.

how can i get compensated for this?

You needed to file a police report right away to prove this even happened. The cop needs to be a witness. Sadly a phone call to animal control or 911 may not be enough proof for a case. You may have not needed a lawyer if you would of called for the police to come out to the scene. You could of handled this in civil court at your local court room. A accident lawyer could advise you further or you can go online and find some paid advice.

I hope your Dogs are alright, this could of been way worse.

Damn, that’s brutal. I’m really sorry you and your dog had to go through that. Since you already called 911 and animal control, next step—document everything. Take pics of your injuries, your dog’s wounds, and keep track of all medical/vet bills. If any neighbors saw what happened, get their statements too.

You should definitely talk to a personal injury lawyer (a lot of them do free consultations). Even if the dog owner has no money or insurance, you might be able to go after the apartment complex if they didn’t enforce leash rules. Some places also have strict liability laws, meaning the owner is automatically responsible.

Also, since you got bitten, go see a doctor ASAP to check for infections or rabies risks. This whole thing is messed up, and you 100% deserve to get compensated. Hope you and your pup heal up soon.
