Hi, I need to know how to remove the Zone identifier from an exe file so that when I transfer it to another machine the security warning does not appear. AI suggested I use ZoneIDTrimmer but I can't install it on my machine. So please, what is your tip? Thanks.

Oh, Zone Identifier is the name of the ADS. What you can do is set the registry key SaveZoneInformation at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments with a DWORD of 1. Alternately, use 'powershell -C Unblock-File' or 'Remove-Item file:Zone.Identifier.'
These, of course, must be done on the machine that the file is downloaded on. Please don't tell me that you thought you could remove the mark from a file and then send it. The built-in zip extractor for Windows propagates MOTW, because of course. (Jun 6, 2025 09:51 AM)m0hx Wrote: u mean dis? Thank you, you helped me a lot. It helped me better understand and do research. I saw ways to get around it thanks to your idea. Now I'm going to try to learn how to do it with Notepad.

Remove Zone Identifier (ZoneId) from .exe Files Without Installing Anything When you see the warning: "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer" That means Windows attached a Zone.Identifier Alternate Data Stream (ADS) to your file. Here's how you can remove it. 1. PowerShell Method (Recommended) Unblock a single file: ps Code Unblock-File -Path "C:\Path\To\YourFile.exe"Unblock all files in a folder: ps Code Get-ChildItem "C:\YourFolder" -Recurse | Unblock-File2. Command Prompt Method (Manual ADS Removal) This deletes the Zone.Identifier stream: cmd Code cmd /c "echo. > YourFile.exe:Zone.Identifier"3. Sysinternals streams.exe Tool (No Install Needed) Download from: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint...ds/streams Run: cmd Code streams.exe -d YourFile.exeWhy Remove ZoneId? - Prevents Windows SmartScreen or warning popups - Avoids Mark-of-the-Web issues on transferred `.exe`, `.ps1`, `.bat` files - Useful in red team ops or automation pipelines Optional: One-liner to clean all EXEs in folder ps1 Code Get-ChildItem *.exe | ForEach-Object { Unblock-File $_.FullName }PS - PowerShell CMD - Command Prompt |
