I feel you, haven't used windows as a daily driver for over 10 years but I have had to use it in some cases where I needed to develop applications for microsoft ecosystems and found it not only to be a pain but also very hard to monitor with how many open connection it has by default. Its jarring coming from linux where the most I have at any given time is 3 connections. Who knows what data they are stealing or how many traces/fingerprints you are leaving by using it.
Could try using O&O ShutUp++, A MAC address changer, solid no log VPN and a TOR browser, if you're just web surfing but even that is iffy on windows. Better off loading something like Tails OS or Kali Linux onto a decent sized bootable USB stick though. It really depends on what you're trying to do as a "ghost". All in all, windows is never really a good way to remain anonymous.
Trying to stay anonymous with Windows is like trying to keep your data private while using Chrome.
It's designed to gather loads of data (telemetry, location tracking, ads, app usage, device performance, Wi-Fi details, crash reports etc). Even if you tweak privacy settings or remove some stuff, it’s hard to fully escape data collection. For true anonymity, you'd need to ditch it and use privacy-focused OSes (like TailsOS). ![]() |
