Programs for Dos and Ddos Attack

What programs to perform a DOS/DDoS attack do you recommend, and where can I download them?

I'm new to all of this and I'd like to get started, I also had a few questions.
Is it safe to do the attack?
It can be done to a website, and how does it work?
Today I tried a program called LOIC and I don't know how it works, is it good or are there better?
LOIC performs dos attacks but in order to shutdown a website it might hundreds of hundreds computers targeting the website at the same time. Look for botnet, rat or booter/stresser which it is expensive.

so LOIC is only for a single point, such as a computer or wifi?

Yep, in laymens terms.

If you were to stick this on PC's that have like ... 1Gbps/s DL and 1Gbps/s uplink.. (Basically REALLY REALLY good internet, this can get to be powerful and effective).

Like if you were to "dos" and amplify that attack with linux machines using scripts, you can start to hit around 3-5Gbps/s in power easily for very cheap.

It only depends on your internet speed. If you have 1gb/s, it will only use 1gb/s. The copy just helps to use all the available WiFi bandwidth.
