Centralisation and decentralisation are not opposites so much as variations on the same dilemma: who has the power to set the rules of visibility? Token-based governance can degenerate into plutocracy just as corporate boards bend to advertisers.
A decentralized internet does create barriers against centralized censorship, but it doesn’t guarantee absolute freedom. Power can still concentrate in new ways—such as wealthy actors accumulating tokens to influence governance—or communities enforcing majority rule that sidelines minority voices. So while decentralization reduces some risks, it introduces new dynamics that can still silence people.
Decentralized internet sounds good, but still tricky. Even without one boss, people can find ways to block or influence content.

Token based voting systems seem really smart. This lets everyone to collectively determine the policies at play

Decentralized tech should mean more freedom, but token-based voting often just shifts power from Big Tech to Big Wallets. So instead of censorship by a CEO, it’s censorship by the richest DAO whales. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss—just with more crypto🤣🐋📵
Even decentralized systems can create new power centers. It’s all about who controls the protocol.
